Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: ? but very exciting
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:deferred SCEA Princeton, accepted IU, Purdue, ASU and waiting on some Ivyâs
General Comments: Did not have a visit but showed interest by making it my first choice on NMF, nominated for Danforth but did not get it, Applied for Lien did not get that either. This will most likely not be affordable, but gives me hope for end of March letters.

Posting for my son

Decision: Accepted

Objective:
â˘SAT I: did not submit
â˘ACT: 30 (highest composite), 32 (superscored)
â˘SAT II: did not submit
â˘Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.83
â˘Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 10%
â˘AP (place score in parenthesis): did not submit (he is in the full IB diploma program)
â˘IB (place score in parenthesis): will take exams in May- estimated score around 40
â˘Senior Year Course Load: IB Math SL, IB Bio HL, IB Psych HL, IB English SL, IB Music HL, TOK
â˘Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): State recognition in Latin Forum

Subjective:
â˘Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Biggest EC is his position as Young Adult Representative of Patient Advocacy Committe of the North American Thrombosis Forum (NATF), a national nonprofit organization; Latin Club (VP Academics), Central Florida Deep Venous Thrombosis/Pulmonary Embolism Support Group (Founder and President)
â˘Job/Work Experience: Summer internship with NATF in Boston
â˘Volunteer/Community service: over 500 hours
â˘Summer Activities: Summer internship in Boston
â˘Essays: Made some of his teachers cry- described how, despite his own medical problems, he has helped his autistic brother with his therapies and what impact autism has had
â˘Teacher Recommendation: Excellent; his math teacher showed us the letter (although my son had waived his rights to see them) and wrote that he mad never met any student with such passion in 25 years of teaching
â˘Counselor Rec: Excellent (likely)- she has known my son for 10 years
â˘Additional Rec: Letter of rec from a world-renowned Cardiologist at Harvard Medical School
â˘Interview: Son said it was likely the icing on the cake, as they got to see what makes him unique. It also helped that he met with a faculty member from the Classics Department, who likely gave a glowing review back to the ADCOM
Other
â˘State (if domestic applicant): FL
â˘Country (if international applicant):
â˘School Type: Private, IB Program (son is doing full IB diploma)
â˘Ethnicity: Asian, Indian
â˘Gender: Male
â˘Income Bracket: $500000
â˘Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): my son is only one of 4 seniors in the country with a rare medical condition (about 100 in the world). He has been so involved with patient care advocacy and is working with two hospital to educate physicians about the dangers of blood clots.
Reflection
â˘Strengths: His âstoryâ; IB diploma
â˘Weaknesses: ACT score
â˘Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I realize that I am biased, but my son impresses nearly everyone with his poise and composure despite his health issues, which nearly killed him twice. He is able to portray how he has overcome adversity and how he will continue patient care advocacy in the future. I really believe that this was the distinguishing factor. His ACT score certainly did not seprate him from the crowd. His letter of rec from the Cardiologist at Harvard may have given him an edge, as it indicated how passionate my son has been for advocating for a cause.
â˘Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted to University of Michigan, Boston College, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Florida; awaiting on decisions from Northwestern, Duke, Rice, Emory, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, UVa, Brown, Penn, Yale, and Harvard
General Comments: We are convinced that the process was holistic, especially when looking at his accomplishments outside the classroom. There really is a lot more to an application than grades and test scores. He also showed a lot of interest by signing up for their mailing list, attending a local information session, and by making a trip to campus in December (and it also helped that the regional Admissions officer instantly remembered my son when he saw him in St. Louis).

Teacher Recommendation: 2 recs, one from math and one from english
Counselor Rec: strong rec
Interview: yes, made sure I talked about how Wash U was different from my other schools. In particular I talked about sustainable architecture and Wash Uâs general goal as a university and how that would help facilitate my ambitions.

Reflection
Strengths: GPA, Essays, Interview, Unique ECs, Race/Location
Weaknesses: Test score, not much Community Service
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I stood out as a candidate and made sure Wash U just wasnât âanother schoolâ I was applying to during my interview.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Northeastern, Iowa State, U of A, UT Austin
Waiting to here back from: Cornell, Syracuse, Rice (I feel like applying to a ton of ivys doesnât look good, doesnât look like a lot of thought went into choosing schools)

General Comments: This college stuff is crazy. I was honestly surprised that I got into Wash U as it was the largest stretch for me. Some people told me that I only got in because I could put Hispanic, but thatâs just one part of the equation. I think what helped me the most was showing my individuality through my essays, interview, and ECâs. Also Wash U looks for a certain type of person, which is why it is often referred to as the âideal schoolâ. They really stress the motto of trying to âsolve world issues/problemsâ and my interest in sustainable architecture fit.

whoops, edit to my last post.

Figures I thought my family made a lot more than we actually do, which I guess explains why we applied for aid then lol XD

Waitlisted. 2250 SATs, 33 ACT, a couple APs, good recs and great geographic diversity (hardly anyone from here applies to Wash U.) Of course itâs always nice to be accepted but Iâm not that bummed about it considering it wasnât my top choice. The only thing that ****es me off is i showed lots of interest-met with a rep at school, went to a college fair, even flew to St. Louis for a weekend and now I feel like that was wasted time/money.
