Hey look, a student blogger who is willing to answer questions about WashU!
[Welcome, Early Decision Class of 2017! WUSTL Admissions: Dera](Welcome, Early Decision Class of 2017! | WUSTL Admissions: Dera)

Deferred:
34 ACT, sports and extracurricular and volunteering ridiculous amounts, 5.2 GPA, awesome teacher recs, went to Summer Scholars and got a 100 in one class and an A in the other at Wash U, number 10 in my class of 100, ten AP classes, AP scholar with distinction, nominated for Danforth scholarship. How is this happening to me?

@cjones also deferred here too.

31 ACT
3.89 GPA
School doesn’t rank…
absurd amounts of volunteering
lettered in varsity track and soccer, captained varsity soccer.
National Honor Society VP
Missouri Boy’s State
Model UN
AP Scholar with Honor
4 APs so far (3 on AP Latin, 4 on AP Euro, 5 on AP Psych, 5 on AP Lang.)
4 more APs this year (Art History, Stat, US History and Lit)
Nominated for Danforth
So much more stuff too…
had what I thought was a decent essay and recs…this is awful.

Reflection

[] Essays: fantastic; my Newspaper Advisor (went to Medill at Northwestern, really knows his stuff) said it was one of the best college essays he had read.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Junior Year English teacher- got an A in her class, formed a very strong relationship with her, could be considered my mentor in multiple areas. APUSH teacher- I got a B in his class, but I got a 5 on the AP test and was one of his favorite students, so I’m pretty confident in this one as well.
[] Counselor Rec: I come from a very big school, so I don’t think it was anything special.
[] Additional Rec: Newspaper Advisor- selected me to be Editor-in-Chief, another strong relationship, told my parents at conferences that it was an “easy letter to write.”
[] Interview: It was very informal (as is the case with Wash U interviews). Honestly, I thought it was just okay-- my other interviews were much smoother, and I felt like I was tripping over my words a lot. It wasn’t a bad interview, though.

General Comments: I can’t believe I’m in. My GPA is under average, I’m not even in my school’s top 10%, and I didn’t even take SAT subject tests. This is unbelievable.

@orthodoxyordeath this is ridiculous I can’t figure out why either of us would be rejected? My college planner is calling them tomorrow to find out. I’m really sorry though hopefully we both get in RD?

My link isn’t up?

@cjones4995 I’m going to guess it has to do with our recs or essays, because in regards to stats, we seem about as well off as anyone else.

Accepted!!!

I read my letters of rec because I was so incredibly close with the teacher and it was beyond amazing and incredibly personal. I thought my essay was good but I guess not…

A facebook group was made for WashU class of 2017!
<a href=“Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2017 | Facebook”>Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2017 | Facebook;

I got deferred, unfortunately. But I know I’ll be okay. Congratulations to all who got in, though!

I’m just wondering if anyone got rejected? Can it be possible that the rest of the people who applied ED but didn’t get in just got deferred?

@cjones4995 the way my guidance counselor explained it is at schools like washu with such an incredible mix of applicants, the randomness of some of the decisions is comparable to throwing the apps in the air and seeing which lands nearest to you. It sucks.
