Eventhough we are all basically applying for the same spots and some of us will get them and some of us won't, I'd like to say I don't think I could be competing against finer company. Once a Wes EDer always a Wes EDer!!!

^ Haha. I must say, I really do appreciate how sincerely non-competitive this thread feels.

I know that this year's 40% increase in ED apps has us all going a little crazy (read: off the wall with anxiety) but here are some words of wisdom courtesy of my father, who had the task of calming me down when I first read the news: we are all qualified applicants with a ton of great things to offer Wes. If we don't get in, it's because of all the crazy competition, not any shortcomings of our own. And if Wes doesn't want us, we'll find another freaking awesome school that does!*

Paraphrased most of that. He's way more eloquent in real time.

ETA RE: (z) @ 6:45

I can't really feel competitive against people I don't know. I know that it's beyond my control now, so that helps me to guard against anxiety. And frankly, it's a nice feeling to know that I may be going to school next fall with some pretty cool people!

So, question to fellow ED applicants: If Wes doesn't work out (knock on keyboard), what's next on your list? Any ED II considerations?

For me it's either Vassar or Macalester.

No EDII for me at the moment. I'm really trying to throw myself into my other applications so I'll be ready if I'm not accepted by Wes. I get kind of excited and then I remember how much I love Wes. :(
I'm counting down the days in my school planner and it's making me soooo nervous.

I'm not planning to apply EDII anywhere because I don't have a clear favorite after Wes. However, I do like Vassar, Haverford, and Emerson a lot. I'd probably go with Vassar if I don't get into Wes, but I don't want to think about that. :-(

Haverford or Brandeis would probably be my next choices.
Followed by maybe Vassar or Wellesley.

Although really, no place makes me feel happy and excited like Wes does.

Interesting. Vassar looks like the common thread.

Man, I'm such a pessimist, but a damn optimistic pessimist. I keep thinking about the positive aspects of getting rejected from Wesleyan. For example, I'll no longer have to deal with my grandma constantly asking about Wellesley. "When do you hear back from Wellesley?" "But isn't that a womens' college!?"

Hahah how annoying. I hear people from Wellesley are sick of people thinking they're at Wesleyan, too. Interesting.

Hey so I have a question (unrelated to anything ED): I was reading The Gatekeepers and it said that from the top of Foss Hill at Wes you can see down to the Connecticut River! I never noticed that while I was there -- is it true?? Is it pretty?

While I was enjoying foss hill with my host during my overnight stay, I'm pretty sure I saw the Connecticut River, its only like 1-2 miles down the street...and yes the Connecticut River is amazing, I've rowed/been on a lot of rivers (charles, schuylkill, hudson, carnegie, thames, housatonic, arno, tibre...) and riding in the launch during a practice, it is defitnally one of the cleaner/bucolic rivers I've seen.

Hah awesome!!! I wish I had seen it while I was there!!

You're really lucky to have rowed on all those amazing rivers -- are you an olympic rower or something? (Sorry to sound ignorant -- I know squat about crew).

you get a great view of the river this time of year, when the trees are bare. even in front of college row, you get an excellent view.

nah I'm defitnally not an olympic rower, I'd love to be someday though, I've just but fortunate enough to row in most of those places, except for the Tibre and the Arno

Hi all, I'm another Wes EDer... similarly, very excited/nervous now that I've submitted my app!
I was wondering if anyone knows: since Wes apparently only sends out admissions decisions via snail mail, does this mean we'd most likely be receiving notification in the week following Dec 15 (which is a monday...)? As in, are the decisions supposed to ARRIVE by then, or is that just when they're sent out?

I have heard they send it out so you get it by the notification date. But I'm not 100% sure about it...someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

they do send it out so you receive it on Dec. 15th. in fact, mine came on Dec. 15th. however, be aware that the US postal service isn't perfect, and you may receive it early (13th or 14th) or a bit late (16th-17th) and even outside that range is possible. also note that all decisions are mailed at about the same time, so a late decision doesnt mean it's a rejection, and one received a bit early isnt definitively an acceptance.

finally, an acceptance package will be a large 8x11 type envelope, and all other decisions I believe are sent in standard size envelopes.

Prays for big envelope

I was wondering about that Dec 15th thing too, thanks for clearing that up.

My son is applying Vassar Ed1, I suppose with Wesleyan ED1 rates skyhigh there is no piont in pursuing Wes ed2 Is There?

The only people who would apply EDII would be those who were deferred EDI or didn't realize Wes was their first choice in time for the EDI deadline.

Right. I assume she means if her son doesn't get in to Vassar?

It's funny, since I'm considering Vassar EDII if I don't get into Wes EDI.
