Since it's fun getting to know each other as potential Wes classmates (and I really don't want to start my French lit homework), just out of curiosity, what are you guys interested in studying at Wes? I'm an aspiring writer/journalist, so I plan to be an English major.

"I'm an aspiring writer/journalist, so I plan to be an English major."

Same, but I hope to double major in either Music or American Studies.

Gem: On a side note, I saw your chance thread. Do you go to Horace Mann?

i want to major in art history and film studies...;)

I plan to major in philosophy (ethics, philosophy of mind, and political philosophy type stuff, specifically). Just don't ask me what I'll do with that major!! ;)

I saw a quote from a Wes student in some brochure sometime that said "In my experience, Wesleyan does an incredibly good job of helping students find something they love, and then giving them the opportunity to learn it".
That got me really excited. Not that I'm currently at a loss for things to love, but still.

I'm actually not into the party scene, but there's stuff for everyone, I guess. And I like that there's no social divide at Wes between the partiers/nonpartiers. Everyone's chill.
That said, if anyone else is looking for someone to bake cookies or play Pictionary with in college, let me know so we can find each other :P

oh man that's embarrassing. I don't go to Horace Mann, but you're not far off. for now I think I'll keep my veil of internet-anonymity, but I do go to another nyc co-ed private school.

anyway, the english majors aren't surprising, but I'm gonna put myself down as the third aspiring journalist today, which strikes me as a little odd considering journalism isn't exactly one of wesleyan's big things. In fact one thing I'd hope to do there is improve the Argus a little bit! I also might want to minor in theater if that doesn't prove too difficult...

i love baking cookies f_p!
in my junior high i was in the baking club thought i only
stuck with it for a year or so.....
im not a good baker but i love baking cookies;)

I also applied ED I. :(
This waiting has been really terrible.
I wish everyone the best of luck. :) Hopefully the decisions will come on Saturday. I saw another post that said admissions decisions were sent out today.
What is everyone's second choice?

No I'm terrible too. The resulting cookies are the only reason I do it.
:)

I think people already mentioned their second choices a few pages back, but mine is still Brandeis or Haverford.

im soooooooo nervous
i couldn't get on hold to my regular decision applications
so i went to a rock concert with my friend;)
it was great and i hope my letter fro Wes will be as great as the concert was...

and does anyone know why the posts gets rearranged in a weird way?

"oh man that's embarrassing. I don't go to Horace Mann, but you're not far off. for now I think I'll keep my veil of internet-anonymity, but I do go to another nyc co-ed private school."

Ah, got it. I just saw the "no GPA, no ranking, sends kids to great colleges" thing and got really excited to ask you if you knew my really close friend at HM.

gem - I'm surprised to see all these journalism majors also! I'm planning on studying english but hope to get a job at a newspaper or magazine... and I'm definitely interested in theatre at Wes!

AHHH!!! 4 days people! I'm super nervous now. I hope the decisions come earlier than expected but if anything, I think I'm going to get mine later because I'm in California. :( btw, my second choices are probably Emory or Boston College. I'm going to be a Sociology major :) Any others?

I was looking to study Classics, Music, and Language, which I would want to major in, idk? Maybe a double major, maybe College of Letters, maybe, if I dare say, a triple major...

I've heard that letters might have been mailed from numerous people on here. Has anyone checked the mailbox?!

So I'm the first? Blazing the new trail? Greetings from purgatory.

Got my letter earlier today: deferred. I was honestly and truly expecting the worst -- Wes was always a reach for me -- so this is at least a bit of a relief. Plus, the excruciating waiting is over (for two months, that is).

Um, so anyway . . . my congratulations in advance to those of you accepted this week. I'm going to take a break from this forum for now and start a RD application marathon. (Really smart to procrastinate those until now.)

(Btw, I'm in New York -- 45 minutes north of Manhattan -- so it's not surprising I got the letter so early. It's nice, I don't have to worry all weekend.)

(z), I'm so sorry! The mail hasn't come yet today, and since I'm 45 minutes southwest of NYC I guess it could come this afternoon. I'm freaking out.

"(z), I'm so sorry!"

Don't be! I lost hope when I saw such a thin envelope -- seeing the words "we are unable to make a final decision . . . " wasn't bad.

I don't know how you view it, but I see a deferral as a mixed blessing...part of me would want a definitive answer so I could move on, but then again, to have another shot at getting in would be nice, too.

I wish you the best of luck in the RD pool. Hopefully we'll both manage to get on campus one way or another. ;-)

(z) you got it already? I live right outside of Manhattan and nothing.. I'm guessing I'll get it tomorrow. So deferral and rejection are in small envelopes - and a large packet for accepted?

gg0624: Total mixed blessing. I just checked out my school's Naviance data, and a few deferrals have led to acceptances, so I'm staying positive. I'm actually in the ED II pool now, but good luck to you, too!

englishphoto: Postal service is super fast here. You'll probably get it tomorrow.
