OFFICIAL Williams College Class of 2014 RD Applicants

Just wondering did most of your submit a peer recommendation? I didn’t becasue I kinda forgot about it. Hope it really is optional.

I didn’t submit one and I got in ED so I wouldn’t worry too much about it =P

threegirls, there’s no deadline for a peer recommendation so if you feel you’d like to submit one, then feel free.

on the application status, it still says I havent submitted my high school transcript…but that went with the counselor rec!!

Theroad-if you wait until they come out, you can decide to rush report them after youve seen them online. it will just be a day or two later.

Stupefy-That is most likely just due to filing lag time. With ED it took a week or two until all my materials were accounted for on that site, and i know for a fact that they all arrived on time. they only appear on the site as a member of the admissions office updates your profile with the info and since they are flooded with apps it takes them a while to sift through all the necessary information.

I myself was nervous (how could some of my recs be there, but not others, and why were my SATs still not there if i mailed them rush weeks ago…) so I emailed an admissions officer, and he told me that it was just filing lagtime, and not to worry.

Just thought I’d post here and let everyone know my numbers; I applied ED:
Location: Minnesota.
Private High School. Best in state, very competitive.
GPA: 3.7 uw. Class Rank: About 15-20%, but not reported. Very difficult course load. All of my courses these past 2 years were either APs or “harder than APs” (which is a stupid designation that my school places on some obscure advanced courses that have like 5 people in them - I’m not sure Williams actually believed this).
Essays: Good, not great. Probably didn’t make a difference either way.
Recs: One of my recs was from my chem teacher who LOVED me and was also a professor for 20 years at Williams - so I think these were good.
SAT: 790 on Math, 790 on Critical Reading, 720 on Writing (2300/1580).
SAT II: 800 on Chemistry, 750 on Math II, 740 on Physics.
APs: 5 on Chemistry, 4’s on US History, English lit, and AB calc.
Ec’s: All conference football player as a junior and senior. Varsity lacrosse, JV basketball. A little bit of community service. 2 summer programs at Stanford, worked for my uncle who is the head of the Richmond U physics department. Went to Peru for a month last summer. Science Bowl.
Decision: deferred. My grades tanked first semester so I’m sure this will become a rejection. Good luck to all.

^YOU got deferred ED?! thats very surprising

Yeah, I was surprised as well. One of my friends at school who had marginally worse statistics than me got flat rejected… maybe they don’t want any more football players from Minnesota?

Yeah, you Minnesotans do have a reputation for being hard to get along with. (Just kidding!) :)

Well, it could be the lack of diversity in your extracurriculars. And if you’re capable of taking ‘harder than AP’ courses, it’s a little hard to believe that you’re getting 4s on three out of your four AP tests (esp. on Calc AB). One thing that surprises me, however, is the fact that your recommendation from that former Williams faculty member did not nudge you in. Although given the self-selecting nature of ED pools anywhere, I hope you can understand why I believe you weren’t an easy admit.

I’m fully aware of the flaws in my application, srrinath. I was far more confident than I should’ve been.

I’m sorry if I sounded like I was insulting you, but in all honesty, very few people at good enough to consider a school like Williams a safe bet. Good luck on RD!

Nah, I’m not insulted at all. Williams is tough. Good luck as well man.

Guys, there’s more to admissions decisions than just mere SAT figures. Of course, its a part of the decision making process but that doesnt secure any surefire acceptance or rejection. I had a friend from Nepal this year who got accepted ED with SATI and SATII scores below 2000. So, try to get my point. Just chillax, for now youve done your part. The rest is their decision making process.

Drought, that is tough luck, your application sounds impressive. If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say that it is very tough applying to an NESCAC school early when football is your primary EC if you aren’t a recruit – it sucks, but that is the reality in a sport in which each school is already taking 16-20 recruits per year, many of them via E.D. With a limited pool of ED acceptances, I imagine the schools would want to diversify a bit. I wouldn’t give up yet. Have you spoken to the coach, assuming you are interested and capable of playing for Williams?

I’ve been actively recruited by Bowdoin, Middlebury, and Carleton, and the Amherst coach has at least done the favor of returning my emails, but I’ve tried several times to contact the Williams coach and I’ve gotten… nothing. I suppose they really don’t want me.

Drought. Wow where do you prefer to go then?

I really don’t know, I would be happy with any of those schools.

Hello everyone!

I only joined this forum today and I want to say that its been really nice reading all your posts
I hope we all (at least most of us) do get in. xx

Hey guys, I have a question. My Williams application appears as complete on their website, but my counselor hasn’t sent the mid-year report yet. What should I do? Should I send it anyway?
