Official Yale SCEA Countdown Thread!

Dear fellow nerve-wracked SCEA applicants,

Yes, it's a full 2.5 months away, yes applications aren't even due yet- but who cares! Let's use this thread to post our woes, our hopes, our dreams, and eventually our decisions! We can get through this horrible waiting period together if we put our minds to it and think of mindless ways to waste such a long period of time.

I know there's another so-called "official" thread, but it's kind of got that anxious, nervous feel, and I don't like to spend too much time on there or I get the shivers. This thread should be 100% good stuff!

(Well, until we get those envelopes!)

Okay, so let's start making one of those cool "who is applying EA" lists, and with that, put your real name if you like, and what you like best about Yale.

Sincerely,
princessbell.

1.Princessbell (Yasmin)

I love Yale because both of our names start with a Y. Just kidding. I think Yale is beautiful, like everyone else. I love the idea of the community you would get from being a part of a residential college. I love that they have my obscure major (Cognitive Science) and that there are very few course requirements. I like the bulldog mascot, the colors, the pride. I like that New Haven is right between Boston and New York, but also stands as a city of its own. I like the passion of Yale students, and I think that that it what attracts me to Yale the most. The students are passionate about what they do, the world they live in, and of course, their alma mater. And so am I.

I love Yale because the very first time I used the internet I stumbled upon the Yale website and loved Yale blue. I love Yale because I first saw it on Gilmore Girls when I was little, and have been in love ever since. I'm inspired by the literature major, as where I come from, there's only one literature major offered at one university in the state. The architecture is incredible. The international focus makes me feel happy.
there's an abundance of amazing, inspiring, intelligent, interesting people there. It's an environment one can thrive and excel in. and I would give anything to be a part of it.

Well... I love Yale based on what I can see from photographs and their web site. I've never been further East than Colorado, nor do I have the expense to go college touring. Their new financial aid program would make it possible for me to attend the college in the slim chance that I am accepted. Nobody in my school has ever been accepted to Yale(to the best extent of anyone's knowledge) so everything I know about competitive college apps is from this site. I would also like the opportunity to get off the West coast and see new places. That's one of the reasons I chose to apply to Yale early rather than Stanford.

Edit: I'm sure we'll see each other in one of those morbid "Official Yale EA Results Thread for Class of 2013"

Um.. so I like Yale cos the students there (from my country of residence) love it. No one from my country of citizenship has been accepted there, or if so there must be around two or some such small number. Plus, I REALLY want to do the solid earth track in geology and I've not seen that (the solid earth track) in other colleges.
I think a Yale education would be a firm foundation for wherever one wants to get in this world.

I love Yale because (beware of hackneyed response!) when I walked on the campus, I just knew that it was the right place for me. My dad is an alumni and although I've been hearing all of my life how "great" and "amazing" going to college there was, I never really thought to actually consider Yale (mostly out of defiance). But then this summer we took a trip up to New Haven to visit the campus once more and I decided to take the opportunity to walk around yale by myself, so that I could really develop my own opinion of the place. I woke up at 5:30 that morning, left the hotel, and literally walked all over the campus for 3 hours. It was quiet, it was beautiful, it was really one of the defining moments of my summer. By the end of my walk, I knew it was my top choice. But besides the feelings I got while I was there, I love Yale because of the amazing opportunities for drama and music (which are the things I want to eventually pursue). I am also in love with that uber neato Political Science, Ethics, and Economics major because it's literally everything I'm interested in studying neaty packaged in a lovely box (that way I don't have to quadruple^100 major like I would have to at.. oh say, Harvard? hehehe).

Yeah, sooo I'm applying early!

Olive_Tree (Because I am a Greek mythology snob)

I love Yale because of its amazing sense of community and passion. I also love how Yalies aren't the competitive bunch; they instead chose to compete and challenge themselves, always curious about the unknown. I also love Yale's AHMAZING financial aid which, if accepted (miracle) would mean having to pay nothing for a world-class education.
I also love Yale because of the... Yale Daily News and other wonderful publications. As a newspaper dork, I would love to take advantage of Yale's famous and infamous publications! Oh, and there's the "Yale's 50 Most Beautiful People." ;) I also love that, as a Social Sciences major, I am certain that I'll be at a university which prides itself on being an innovator and leader in said field. I also love its Masters' Teas and Handsome Dan and the residential colleges and even "Dirty Haves" (what Yalies call New Haven) and... well you get the idea!

Go Bulldogs!

I used to be afraid of Yale, because of the whole New Haven isn't safe thing. But I visited in April, and my parents and I fell in love with the campus, the people, location (2 hours from home, between two metropolitan areas), and the entire idk.. essence of the place. People there are worldy, cultured, and knowledgable without being stuck up. Even though I would like to major in applied mathematics and Yale isn't exactly known as a bastion of pre-scientists, it still has a pretty strong department, and Yale is really good at my other interests.

Hlover (ok, so after being on CC for a while, I realized this name could be interpreted as Harvard lover, but rest assured, that's not what i intended. my initials are H and R, and i just put a random word [love] in the middle.)

I love Yale because....words can't really describe..you guys summed it up pretty well. the departments, the campus, the everything.
there was just a feeling that of any school, even if I have a .000001%chance, that i had to apply...you know what i mean?

The evolution of my interest/love for Yale:

Sept 2006--- Yale what??? eff that, my dream school is P-ton!
Sept 2007--- Hmmm... so my favorite gilmore girl (Rory) goes there, looks kind of interesting but it seems more geared toward humanities/social-sciences type ppl

(after I find out how much I LOOOVVVE history, govt)

Janauary 2008---"hmmm...Yale has the top history dept in like the world lol..I think I am in LOVE! =) "

March-April-May 2008--- "Hey everyone, teachers, parents, bosses, classmates and all I am 99.99999% sure that I am applying to Yale early and if I get in, I WILL GO!!!!"

June 2008 (Yale visit) OMG this place is everything i've ever dreamed of for a college-- the architecture, the amazing students, the caring professors..everything!

Sept 2008 "Please! please Yale dont go breaking my heart! I've only told the whole world about my love for thee! All you need is to accept it, embrace it, and love me back."

...yeah i m uber-melodramatic about Yale. I cant even say WHY i want to go there without tearing up! Talking about the Y gets me so emotional. :)

^^^haha, you're too cute!

Okay...we can continue with the intros, but let's do something new!

Let's discuss the merits of waiting for big envelope/small envelope vs. the anti climatic online click thing. Will you stalk your mailman? Or will you just use the computer?

1 month left till the deadline!
10 weeks, 5 days left till decisions!

I prefer email; the wait would just kill me. Then again, the minute I see the Yale email I will most likely spend an hour debating whether to open it or not. LOL...

Right now I'm saying I want to stalk the mailman.. but I know I'll end up checking on the computer b/c I won't be able to wait!! :D

I won't be able to wait until the snail mail shows up. I'd rather get my heart broken online than on paper.

and getting a yale dancing bulldog email is better than a letter in the mail XD

j/k but I think getting rejected online is wayyy better. though getting the letter after will suck.

I hate waiting... I'd rather get it straight up...

i am so scared :(

Definitely email. Cos I'm not even in the same country as where the post will come in.

does anyone know exactly WHEN decisions will be mailed out? if they come in dec 15 or so then i will definetly opt for that. i would rather find out by the traditional thin vs. thick envelope way!

December 15 this year is a Saturday though...so I don't know what that means. Either the 14th or the 17th...i'm guessing.
