our class used zumdahl and 85% got 5s...mostly sophomores....dont make excuses for yourself

Wow I guess I got lucky. I'm using Chemistry the Central Science and it makes everything so clear. Although my teacher is mediocre, I still love chemistry to death.

@brightred, we use the same one, by Brown/Lemay. I like it too, its actually pretty interesting to read. I like the use of real-world products

I actually think that zumdahl is more than competant... the book questions paired with the solutions guide explains a most of the nuances in even easy problems.

I actually think zumdahl is too elementary. It presents the information as if you are an idiot. The marathon problems are fun though.

In my opinion, Zumdahl is a bit challenging (but not every problem).

Yeah; my class is failing. Good thing my teacher curves tests by 10% <_<

We use The Brown/Lemay book, too.

Yep! AP Chemistry... Our assignments are harder than the stuff we learn in class. Luckily we started with the easy units first so it gives us confidence. It is only the first few weeks so... I am sure that it will get harder as time goes by.

I am currently using Barron's AP Chemistry, it is really good to complement class if you read it right away after class. Not good for review but it is pretty good.
(2008 Barron's has some minor mistakes)

Yeah...we're probably going to move to the Zumdahl as well (we're using the Silberberg). But I think that it's more a matter of practice from a variety of sources than anything else.

So far, I'm okay with it, barring a C on the first test. But we shall see....

I took it last year and used the Brown/Lemay book too.
If you read the chapters at home before you learn it in class everything is so much easier. Just keep up on the work. I got an A+ in the course and a 5 on the exam. Don't worry there is a big curve. Yeah, lab was the worst part.

The class and the tests aren't that hard. On our first test, Chapters 1-3, I got a 97.

Yeah... As I've said before, I'm taking it as a side class outside of school without any previous experience with Chemistry. The teacher's really brisk and... I guess none of you guys are using the same book as we are? My book is called Principles of Modern Chemistry and it's written by Oxtoby, Gillis, and Nachtrieb. I'm really struggling with gases right now. >_<

wow Chem honors was close to hell that i promised myself that i would never get into AP Chem even if my school offered it. (not offering it because so little people willing to join (i can see why)). im so lucky i got the B- (really! my percentage was 80.01! not joking guys!!)

yeah I'm taking AP Chem this year and I have a great teacher. I think how you feel about the class really depends on your teacher, and their teaching style.
