k next quarter i wanna get a 4.0

you have all inspired me

I could've done better this quarter but I'm content with what I got.

Phy Sci 5: A+
Math 31B: B+
English Comp 3: A-

I'd kill for those grades this quarter.

mm random question... is phy sci 5 pretty easy =o?
i was thinking of taking it but not sure...

if you have the type of mind that remembers every little fact in a detailed course reader and regurgitates it with no problem (i.e. science major) then yes it's an easy A. when i took it in the spring i think 1/3 of the class got an A, and most of the rest got Bs.

otherwise, easy B, harder A.

I missed a A- by one final question. I calculated my grade to be exactly 89.24%.

3.4 =

I felt Phy Sci 5 was a pretty easy A but that's because I had Bernard the first half and then Roberts the second half. Bernard's midterm was ridiculously easy (I overprepared myself) because it was so general and basic while Roberts had a more specific/difficult final. As long as you pay attention while you read and make an effort to understand, you should be fine. There's a pretty generous curve IMO. The lab report is also very easy (our mean was like 96/100!).

I managed to get like the 10th worst grade on the project because there were like 5 sets of information I didn't refer to in the analysis. But I was taking the class for pass/fail so it really didn't matter. Huzzah.

Speaking of pass/fail, does anyone know what effect taking classes like that will have on one's chances of getting into graduate/law school? I ended up taking two pass/fail classes this time (Phy Sci 5 and Hist 1A because my TA was terrible). I'm hoping it won't make me look lazy, since all my other grades are A's and a few A-'s, so it might appear that I only take classes for a grade if they're going well.

whats wrong with being perceived that way if thats exactly what youre doing?

and i heard that some law schools calculate a pass grade as a c when determining gpa's

I wasn't aware you could take more than one 5 unit class p/np a quarter. how did you manage two?

in any case some people are extreme and say you shouldn't have more than 1 or 2. having talked to many people, i think you can stretch it up to 4 (i.e. one a year). mainly, just dont do one every quarter.

"whats wrong with being perceived that way if thats exactly what youre doing?"

The only reason I did it for 1A is because my TA didn't know how to grade a paper and marked people off on 25-minute essay questions because they didn't have an argument in a question where there was no possible argument. With any other TA I would have had like a 95 in the class. Even after I stopped trying I got an 89.7. She was terrible.

I also hadn't taken any classes on that basis prior to this.

^Really? I think my TA docked me for having an argument when all he wanted was for me to spill out the stuff I memorized the night before about the test material. My first essay landed me a 40/50 when I had a really nice thesis and such. My second one got me a 43 when I started emphasizing material more than analysis, and the third one I got a 48 on when I had no thesis whatsoever xD But yeah, I heard one of the TAs was really harsh. Was it the lady with the glasses?

I think so. Her name was Sarah Whitten and I wish I hated her, but she was a really nice person so I feel bad about saying these things about her. But yeah, she was kinda short and wore glasses most of the time. I was so sick of her by the end that the second half of my final essay was "stuff happened and people died and Rome fell... bummer."

k, so basically, i got an NR for a grade (not reported), does that mean i didnt pass??? do profs sometimes put an NR for a grade for the students who didnt pass?

I think thats for professors who haven't finished grading (still). Were you borderline to begin with?

It just means your grade (or the class's grades) aren't ready yet. It happened to me for Session A (Summer Quarter).

3.077 :( first quarter ever for me though... Chemistry didn't like me much.

CS 1 - A
CS 31 - A
Math 31B - B
Chem 20A - C

T_T

^Who did you have for CS 31?

That was actually my first A in a UD class for biochem... which kinda sucks...

I agree about Courey though. He was pretty good. I'm sure if I had worked harder I could've gotten the A... I mean Wiam pretty much told us EXACTLY what was on the exam during her reviews. And I suppose it would've helped had I actually remembered to write the poem... opps...

PS - what classes are you taking this next quarter? I had a heck of a time finding classes that didn't conflict with one another.

I didn't go to discussion except for quizzes....

I'm taking anthro 7, bionanotechnology, chem 154 and a psychology course, but anthro 7 is conflict with chem 154 lab. Also I don't know what the heck is bionanotechnology...

still waiting for my grades...-_-

EDIT: woah, the bug where my post comes before KolosoK's post is awesome. lol
