howwww??? wat doesn’t make sense?

Putting aside the thousands of people that would therefore deservingly benefit…

“Oh, you’re stupid and undeserving of even the moost rudimentary comforts of life? have a cookie.”
“…Rewards those who don’t deserve it”
^Those are HUGE statements to make w/o backing it up. How do you categorize those who are ‘deserving’? I’d be interested to know.

NOONE DOES. black ppl in bad inner city schools argument? “oh they were slaves once?” please. what is lacking is self-motivation. the knowledge is out there. go find it. and the whole slaves argument? asians didn’t have a picnic when they immigrated either. my parents came from Korea with nothing forty years ago. both doctors. versus African American slavery 4-5 generations ago? wat?

Yeah, anti-black racism is like 150 years ago

^true dat homeslice

Staind- I know that Asians have been completely discriminated against. I know about things like the Chinese Origin Act and am shocked that this part of history has been so overlooked. I can empathize with you in a way. But you CAN NOT say things like ‘URMs are undeserving’. I know many deserving minorities who are some of the hardest working people I’ve ever met. Maybe they don’t have 2400s or laundry list ECs, but they overcame so much-racism, poverty, etc.
And I agree, that ‘slavery’ reason doesn’t make sense to me either. But there are many other reasons why AA exists.

melody, my point is so has everyone else. its not fair to consider only one group’s hardship, and basically saying all asians have it good, they don’t need help. isn’t that a crime too?

Why is another aa thread being started?

Staind, I hate AA, just to get that out of the way. Nonetheless, it’s ridiculous for you to ignore the fact that currently in America, a far greater % of black Americans are being raised under what are generally understood as bad conditions than the % any other race.

Let me put this out there- I am not pro-AA or against it. It is flawed in that it only considers race rather than socioeconomic status which I think you mentioned earlier. But it does have some merits. Try to look at this from a different standpoint. And are you focusing on African Americans hardships? Because as you know AA is more than just African American based. I just think that it is unfair of you to say that AA only benefits the undeserving. There are so many deserving people: White, Asian, Black, Hispanic, Native American, etc. AA benefits some of those deserving people, but it leaves out others. Like I said earlier, AA is flawed, but that still doesn’t mean that everyone who gets help from AA is undeserving.

Those of you saying that there is no logical reason for AA to take into account race… don’t forget to take into account the residual racism latent in legacy admissions.

This thread is just one big joke that soared over my head, right?

of course helping disadvantaged ppl is worthy. but at the exclusion of others is the main issue. you don’t think in each of those bad neighboorhoods is an asian just as disadvantaged? in a country that promotes equity for all, how is it that racism is thriving in such an important facet of life? going on a tangent here, but i think the american govt is just trying to put down asians. just like when they put writing into the SAT reasoning. tangential, yet pertinent.

In the same neighborhoods as the most highly disadvantaged black people? No, I don’t.

Good god I hope this is a joke (though the tone of the rest of the post suggests otherwise).

1)The govt. has NOTHING to do with the SAT
2)The SAT in the modern age is not culturally biased.
3)It’s very racist to say that asians can’t do well in writing.
4)I would be willing to bet that asians are the highest scoring group on the writing section of the SAT (just like the other sections).

are you really serious?

Affirmative Action is srs bsns

I love AA. I get rewarded for no reason :D.

I wish they served more alcohol in AA.
