I just read on the commonapp website that tabs dont show up when the colleges see the essay because of some differences with online formatting. When I submitted my Notre Dame essay online, it didnt say anything about this and instead of spacing between paragraphs, I used indentions. In the box where you put your essay, it looked normal when I submitted it, but is it gonna look like one huge paragraph to the admissions? PLEASE HELP!!!

They probably make sure that line breaks are visible somehow when they view it. I imagine that they get a lot of essays like that, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Wait a second. When I typed my essay in a word processor, at the end of each paragraph, I pressed enter to go to the next line like when you want to start a new paragraph. Then I pressed tab to indent. Even though it doesn't space between paragraphs in the word processor when you press enter just once (it just goes to the next line), does it make a space in between paragraphs with the online formatting? I just did print preview with commonapp and thats what it does here. Does anyone know what Im talking about?

I don't know if Notre Dame's system will automatically add a space, like the common app did (I'd be surprised if it didn't, though). But even if it doesn't, the line breaks will still be in place and the people reviewing your application should still be able to see where one paragraph ends and another begins.

Don't worry, if it happens yours won't be the only one. Additionally, what you say is far more important than the spacing. Try to relax, it will be fine.

yeah my UNC essays were totally messed up with spacing. but i still got in and got a phone call from the director of admissions saying he loved my essays. spacing isnt too much of an issue with online stuff.
