so i just reread an email from my college saying that the fafsa is due on the fifteenth of feb. i thought it was the fifteenth of APRIL. fail! :S i am ashamed of myself.

and its like the fourteeth. im applying for the PIN now but i know it takes awhile. can i use my pin code i created as soon as i submit the form

any chances I can get aid in the form of a workstudy? i dont think the loans offered by the school are no interest [and my family can only do no interest loans for religious reasons]

im not the world's brightest child, so chances of me getting a merit scholarship are dim too. come from a middle uppler class income, so need based scholarship is low too.

should i still apply for the FAFSA? any idea what the chances are for me getting Financial Aid in terms of a workstudy?

What do they mean by income tax return on the CSS thing. I’m an international so don’t have an US income tax return. But I do have a non-US income tax return.

Definitely submit the FAFSA! We did ours last week and it was surprisingly easy. Have your parents completed their 2009 taxes yet?

Yes, you can sign the FAFSA immediately with the pin you created (before it is verified). I’m new at this, but I’m pretty sure you have to complete the FAFSA to be eligible for anything (student loans, work study, etc.). I also believe that you can fill out the FAFSA using estimated taxes.

Yes. Submit. It doesn’t hurt you to do it.
Don’t be too concerned about the date. You might get it done in time anyway. If you don’t, there’s nothing you can do now to change it. And, being so close, it’s PROBABLE (?) that you’d still get whatever aid they might offer.

bumble,
Why would you even think that April 15 would be the FA date? Schools can’t send their FA packets out in April without your information in long before that. Do you read the websites?

Yes you should still file FAFSA if you want to be eligible for any aid. Do it today and you will have met the deadline. it is impossible for anyone here to say what your chances of getting work study are, it will depend on the FA policies of your school and on what, if any, your financial need turns out to be.

ok. well. we are working on the fafsa now so, yeah.

gloworm: well… i really feel bad about it. for some reason, i thought april 15 would be the deadline, as in we don’t accept anymore applications. but i figured most of the aid would go to people who applied ahead of time… so there wouldn’t be any aid left by the fifteenth.

i know. its so illogical. and i was gone out of the country for the weekend, so the cute little, dont forget to submit ur fafsa wasn’t even opened till this morning. im kind of a klutz when it comes to deadlines, but so far everything else has been turned in on time except this. i think.

anyways thanks for the advice. i guess it cant hurt.

mr.propogranda, im sorry, but i dont know the answer to your question =S

MrP, call the school & ask. We expect our students who are aid-eligible but have parents with foreign tax returns to report the money in American dollars using the exchange rate on the day they file the FAFSA.

Bumble, just get it done as soon as you can. That is the best you can do. Estimate, if necessary, and submit. Update later if you need to do so.

Are you Muslim? Do file the FAFSA, because you might qualify for subsidized loans. Our Muslim students who are opposed to paying interest often borrow sub loans & pay them off before the first payment is due. Interest on sub loans does not accumulate like it does on unsub loans. They are due 6 months after graduation/leaving school/dropping below half time. If you can pay the whole amount of the loan back before the first payment is due, there is no interest.
