ohh conflict

hello all! i'm considering taking a year off from smith, for travel and specialized work-experience and such, and i was wondering if anyone could give me insight into the reapplication process for a withdrawn student. any information would be so appreciated!!

My roommate transferred out of Smith at the end of first year and then transferred back halfway through sophomore. It's pretty easy, she just had to fill out some kind of one page re-admission form.

If you're just going for one year you can take a leave of absence, and then you don't have to officially withdraw and be re-admitted, though I don't know what the paperwork/rules surrounding that are.

I've unfortunately missed the deadline for a leave of absence by quite a bit, so this appears to be my only option. Additionally, can anyone tell me how much weight is put on second semester grades when evaluating readmission applications? I have a pretty legitimate excuse, and ideally the fact that I wasn't completely screwing off during this little interlude will work to my advantage, but since I want my readmission to be relatively certain, this is kind of a concern. thank you!

Probably the best thing to do would be to email your dean. She can give you the most accurate advice.
