Ohio state university direct admit to undergrad business school

Daughter is a junior from OOS competitive HS in a top county with 4.2 W and 3.78 UW GPA with 6 AP classes and 8 honors classes from 8-11th grade. She has a 29 ACT. Stellar ECs. Chances for direct admit to the business school?

Similar Stats as your daughter and she will be attending Fisher this Fall. What State would you be applying from? You daughter still has six more months to improve her ACT and maybe even her GPA. Ohio State gets more competitive every year and nothing is a given. Assuming nothing changes, she could qualify for the Buckeye scholarship, but again many kids with higher scores are not getting it this year. The scholarships is not guaranteed. Make sure you apply by October 15. if not by October 1st in order to put yourself in the best situation.

@Gradmom1 checkout https://fisher.osu.edu/undergraduate/admissions/future-students Your daughter needs a 30 on the ACTfor direct admit to Fisher College of Business OR if her highest score on the ACT is 29 she has to be in the top 20% of her class. It is unknown to me whether Ohio State will look at her unweighted 3.78 or her weighted 4.2 for determining her class rank. You should ask your daughter’s guidance counselor what her class rank is and also ask for the counselor to provide that info to Ohio State’s local regional admissions officer for the area where your daughter’s high school is lcoated. Because even though a high school might not have an official class rank, they do keep such records for internal purposes and will share the rank with colleges that ask–class rank is often important for determining scholarships and direct admits. It can’t hurt for your daughter to reach out to her local Ohio State admissions officer for the terriorty where your high school is located to ask these questions, because it will show interest. The Common Data Set for Ohio State says “demonstrated interest” is not considered, but i have seen anecdotally that expression of interest seems to help. Good luck!

She is coming from Fairfax County in northern Virginia. Also, I should add that her grandparents and I went to OSU! Go Bucks. But, I’m not sure that plays any part.

I will definitely contact her counselor re class rank as well as have my daughter contact local admissions. I can’t imagine she’s in the top 20%. It’s a highly competitive HS. When she goes to the 4.0+ ceremony each year, about 1/4-1/3 of the class is there!

Congrats to your daughter, Boomer1964. She will LOVE it there!

I confirmed NO class rank from our HS. She’ll have to contact local admissions to inquire how that plays out. Thanks.

@Gradmom1 Thank you!!! As I said, she is good shape for admissions. Our HS does not ranked. Not sure if having any legacy matters at OSU, but if she can take the ACT one more time, perhaps she can do slightly better. My daughter had a few differences in her score, but the one she took in early September of her senior year made a big difference from the ones she took in her Junior year.

Admissions in general is very unpredictable. You just never know. On paper your kid should be OK for a lot of schools. Make sure she applies 6 to 7 schools and some should be safeties both academically and financially. If you apply to all the Stanfords of the world, you will set yourself for disappointment. I do not know where else she is interested in applying but being that you are from Virginia, I would think that UVA would be a given as your “why not try to apply and see if we get in” and Virginia Tech as your in state match… Other great Business schools that might appeal to her would be Indiana, Maryland, Wisconsin (based on her scores) and Pittsburgh. If Merit is needed then that changes all the target schools. But OSU for sure looks like a very good target school for her. Just make sure you apply early enough to all the schools

Thanks. She’s also interested in Indiana and Wisconsin. She will definitely apply early for best chances. No VA schools for her. She wants to go away. She’s taking ACT again in a couple weeks. We’ll see how that goes. Hopefully, that will be it. But, it’s good to know she has additional testing opps if needed. Thanks for your insight.

Accepted to OSU! When do Fisher decisions come out???

I recall when my son got accepted as a direct admit to Fisher it said “business” in his portal. And the letter from Fisher came about 4 or 5 weeks later. What does to say on your daughter’s portal? If you are unsure you should either call admissons office and ask. I am not familiar with the process to get into Fisher if she did not get direct admittance.

Same for my son who accepted back in November. His portal stated business and shortly after he received his big packet from OSU he received the letter from Fisher as well.
