Ohio State's Take The Field Tribute to Navy

YouTube - Ohio State's Take the Field Tribute for Navy - 9.5.09

It was a wonderful tribute to see Ohio State players take the field with Navy. Class act.

Yea, the buckeyes showed some real class and patriotism. Never again will I refer to them as bunch of nuts of little or no value! Go Bucks! Beat 'em all except for Navy and Penn State!

Many are calling Ohio State a class act for the generous reception they gave Navy, and I agree that the school and fans were very hospitable and excited about Navy playing in Columbus. However, I might point out that one of the OSU players (was that the quarterback?) had “Mike Vick” black patches under his eyes, and how about the play where two Ohio football players wrenched the ball out of the Navy player’s arms. Is that allowed; looked like a wrestling move to me? Props to Navy for their great effort and losing by only a small margin, 27-31. On the other hand, Ohio plays USC next weekend, so maybe they wanted to stay healthy for that game.

No one is deluded that Tressel doesn’t have a whole bunch of thugs among his charges. Pastors, brain surgeons, and USN officers may be few and far between in his locker room. Your point’s taken. A wonderful gesture that says zilch about the character and patriotism of their football players. And for those who are of sound mind and character, unfair generalizing about them as well.

Hey, what’s the graduation rate of OSU football players?

Not sure of the graduation rate, and surely won’t speculate about the personal characteristics of some OSU players.

As an organization, though, Ohio State gets props from me for the VERY clear and consistent effort to show respect to the Navy/Midshipmen. From the skull session before the game to taking the field together. Classy.

^^^ will second that!

Tressel was one of five Div.1 coaches who went on a tour of military hospitals and bases in Europe, Iraq and other locales. He’s a class act. And I don’t remember any hint of recruiting violations or any other violation under Tressel at OSU. Compare that to Rodriguez at Michigan. Or any of the Florida schools.

Consider the source of the allegations with Michigan… I don’t like Michigan, but the way they are going about it isn’t fair to the coaches or the program at Michigan.

Ok, I live in Ohio but I’m not a Buckeye fan.

Most Buckeye players stay out of trouble…sort of.

Besides Maurice Clarett, nothing really major, Troy Smith took a few hundred dollars from a booster, but that happens at every D1 school.

One thing that sticks out in my mind though, is the backup QB got arrested for soliciting a prostitute near campus.
I’m like W T F, a QB for the Ohio State Buckeyes needs to go to a prostitute in Columbus!!! Granted, he was not the starter, but he was highly recruited and just a frosh or redshirted freshman. But people love their Bucks here and football players are practically Gods on campus, so…you know where I’m going.

But like someone mentioned, it pales in comparison to schools like USC, UF, etc…

Someone mentioned OSU grad rate, it is pretty terrible. I think it is around 50% now, but it was below that a few years before.
But that is atrocious compared to schools like Navy, Notre Dame, etc…

Oh and on the topic of Terrelle Pryor and Mick Vick here is a quote about his thoughts on Vick.

Ok, here is the kicker.

Good grief.

Navy played a heck of a game Saturday, and they almost pulled it off. Wore my Navy shirt even though they lost.

^^^Thanks for the reality check–and kudos for your Navy spirit!

No problem.

I had to really dig out the shirt, it was buried it my closet, and too small, but oh well, lol. I’ve got a USNA hoody, but it’s not that cold yet…even for Ohio.
Guess it is time to make another trip to Annapolis soon.

Musta shrunk. Like TP’s common sense.

I think Tressel could probably ebay-buy one of Mike Vick’s only slightly used mongrel muzzles. He doesn’t need 'em anymore, and could probably use the cash. Make sure it’s XL. :stuck_out_tongue:

And maybe that new Navy tee, too? (Never, ever wash it in “hottern he_ _” setting. )

Really gotta wonder where the PR/communication coaches are when these dudes are set loose among the media. They should be given one line, one line only. And no matter the question …the answer should be … “Bazeboll bean berry berry good to me!” And sit down.

On the other hand? Pryor probably thought Vick went to Navy. And learned it in his frosh class, “History of NFL Players and Other Serial Criminals”

whistle pig wrote,

And also, birds and 'backs of a feather …

No doubt, programs exude and usually merit reputations that attract the creatures they will …

Not many convicted felons playing tackle for Navy. Or even Army. In fact, I’d bet there are few who write for a catalog or even go to NAVY football summer camp.
