im in the national honor society, spanish honor society, PAC and AWod those are my ECs, and ive been working during the summer. i plan to start volunteering at the hospital around early october until the end of this year, idk will my background help me in ne way? etc. etc. well let me know be honest plz

will it be better if i join like alot more clubs this year before sending out my applications? because i wanna go sooo bad, like, the thing is, I only decided to take APs in subjects im deciding to pursue, like i didnt know u had to be EXTREMELY well rounded, will i be a victim of affirmitave action also? plz reply help me i neeed muchhoo help lol

Unfortunately clubs don't mean much because they're easy to join and participate in. They only mean something if you've had a long comittment to them and hold a leadership position. Plus joining random clubs in your Senior year looks REALLY bad on your applications. The committment just isn't there and they'lle know this.

I'm not sure how AA will affect you but I don't think there's a large percentage of Afghans in most universities, so it may actually help you. I don't know.

Your school will be sending Penn a school profile detailing what AP classes it offers. The admissions comittee looks for students who have taken advantage of most of the AP classes your school offers. Honors and AP are extremely important because it shows you have taken the hardest course load possible.

Even if you get a 2100+ I see Penn as being a HUGE reach for you right now. HAve you considered simmilar universities that interest you but that aren't as selective?

Do you know if Penn will be able to distinguish applicants who more or less went out of their way to take the most amount of AP classes possible?
AP classes aren't offered at our school until 11th grade (we have AP USH I, AP Gov., AP Music Theory, AP Art, AP Chem, and AP Bio available). Most students only take AP USH I, but I was willing to sacrifice my lunch periods to take AP Chem. Also, I don't have any lunch periods senior year, because in addition to AP Spanish, AP English, AP USH II, and AP Calc BC, I'll be doubling up on the sciences (AP Physics and AP Environmental). I know it doesn't mean much that I'll only have about two more AP classes more than my classmates, but I was just wondering if Penn will understand the difference.

^ Ask your guidance counselor if they include the fact that you cannot take APs until 11th grade on the school report. If not, ask him/her to address it in the recommendation. If none of this done, it may count against you. Yes, I know people will say that not taking every single AP class will not hurt you, and it won't, but you should have taken most. That's what the adcoms have stated before. Just make sure that the restriction until 11th grade is addressed.

yeah ive been looking at BU and UMich also, Upenn is my top choice, like i wont be too devastated if they reject me, b.c. they have the right to, the best thing i can do is try, but, about the afghan thing, you probably are correct, hopefully it will help haha, hopefully volunteering will help too, i think i have more things to add to it, i just have to work my ass off the next few months, there is that feeling though that i might have a chance although it may be a huge reach, whats upenns acceptance rate as of now anyways? i just hope its not too late to make up for mistakes ya know?

I think you may have misinterpreted my situation. In 11th grade, I took 2 AP classes (Chem and USH) and the rest being honors class. In 12th grade, I'll be taking 6 more (actually USH will only be a continuation). Those who take AP Art, Music Theory, etc. (non-core subject classes) are those who have already been taking music/art classes.

My question is: Will Penn understand that I've taken more AP classes than other students? I completely understand that this won't 'make or break' me, but it would be comforting to know that I'm serious about my education and also that I've utilized everything my school had to offer.

I wouldn't worry about it. They compare you to kids in your geographic region, not necessarily your school. The number of APs you've taken won't make them second guess whether or not you've taken more than your classmates.

i only took one AP class which was U.S. HIstory nd going to take two more my senior year. idk will this count against me since ill only have a total of 3 finishing high school, unlike other students who take like 8-10 APs?
