ok, so recommendations...help!!

1.) ok, so i know i have my teachers physically mail out the recs to SCA, right?

2.) but for the normal main usc app, do i have them physically mail it out? where do they send it?

3.) and what are they supposed to put for THEIR address (the high school school address or what?)

4.) also if i am asking the same teachers for both main and SCA, can they photocopy the standard form they filled out and send it to both or do they have to fill out a separate for each?

5.) and what does it mean on the main usc app when it says you have to submit your app and THEN get the additional forms??

please help!!!!

1.) According to the SCA website, you can send the recommendations with your supplemental application or the teachers can physically mail the recommendations.

2.) For the “normal main usc app”- the answer is the same- the recommender should physically mail it. The mailing address for follow-up application materials and all other types of correspondence:
USC Office of Admission
700 Childs Way
University Park Campus
Los Angeles, California 90089-0911
[USC Undergraduate Admission - Admission Counselor](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/contact/)
Be sure to give the recommender an addressed stamped envelopes.

3.) The recommender will usually put their school’s address.

4.) Not sure about this one- do any SCA applicants know?

5.) You don’t have to wait to get the additional forms. Get them here:
[Freshmen - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/freshmen.html)

Good luck!

thanks so much!!

but when you say: “Letters of Recommendation should be sent by the applicant with the other supplemental application materials. Letters of Recommendation may also be submitted directly by the recommender as necessary.”

do you mean that i should ask for their letters and mail them myself along with all my other supplemental materials?

I didn’t say that- I cut and pasted it from the USC Admission website. :)

So we have to figure out what they mean: according to their instructions, it can be done either way. Most of the time, it is customary to give the teacher a stamped addressed envelope and have them send it. Your best bet is to talk to your recommender to see how they would prefer to do it.

Don’t get too caught up in all the minutiae and pre-think everything because it is not that difficult if you just do it. Go through the process and you will see that it all works. Your teachers will know what to do.

ok, thank you!

When they say, “Letters of Recommendation should be sent by the applicant with the other supplemental application materials”, does it mean that I can staple the recommendations to all my other materials? Do they recommendations have to be sealed in envelopes?

The recommendations have to be sealed in envelopes by the recommender. If your recommenders give you the sealed letter to submit, just put it in the same envelope with any other materials you are mailing. No need to staple it. If the recommender prefers to mail it themselves, ask if they can include your USC ID on the letter.

One of my recommenders already gave me her letter, but it isn’t sealed in an envelope. Can I just put it in an envelope now?

Yes. And then seal it.

how many teacher recs do we need? 2 right?

just 1 i think.

The official requirement is for one letter, either counselor or teacher.

If one sends a counselor rec with the form, is it expected to use the form for additional teacher recs as well? Because she applied ED elsewhere, my D is a bit behind schedule on getting teacher recs, and it would be much easier to do without the form. Any thoughts on whether she could just have them sent directly, sans form?

However, would it be better to have two teacher recs and one counselor rec?

Yes, because you never know who can write a better letter of recommendation. DD sent in 2 teacher recs, same as Common App. It turned out one teacher rec is a dud, eventhough DD had A in the class and developped a really good relationship with this teacher.

How do you find out what your USC ID is??
