OU is significantly more expensive (after aid) than OK State. Are there any benefits to attending OU for all four years (instead of going to OK State for the first two years and then transfer to OU for the last two years) that would make the expense worth it to go to OU for all four years?
Why not attend Oklahoma State for all four years? What makes you hesitant about going to Oklahoma State?
OK State is fine. OU just felt more suitable in many aspects.
Yes to the above. Also, even if you intend to transfer to OU, it might be hard to remain a fan of OU given how much anti-OU sentiment you will see at sporting events between the two rivals.
The cheapest option of course is to go to a community college and then transfer to OU. To truly answer whether it is worth it to start at OU or go to OSU and then transfer, you need to answer a few questions. First, how much debt will you accumulate if you did your entire undergraduate education at OU? What will be your total debt load if you start at OSU and then transfer?
I would agree. If the decision is financial in nature, better to go the community college route first. Choice 2 would be to accept OSU as your best choice an embrace it.
Not just that. OU’s program is in the top 10 in the nation, but OK State also has a great program, just not in the top 25.
So, one of the considerations is whether such a better program is worth the extra expense.
It is hard with out knowing more details and context of what you are trying get input. If it is purely financial situation, there are also with out knowing what ball park number are we talking it is hard. Whether are you OOS or IS or you getting any financial aid or merit aid in each school and what difference are you talking.
Because assume if no financial or merit aid, then also the difference for both IS and OOS is small (relatively speaking)
OSU IS $18.7k, OOS $31.9k
OU IS $20.3, OOS $33.7k
So the net diff for 4 years for IS is $6.4k and OOS $7.2k. So if you are prepared for OSU, then OU is not different.
Also if you are talking about some program, what program are you referring. If you are stating OSU is also great though it is not in top 25, at least in your assessment that is acceptable, though OU is top 10. So what are you seeking from others as input?
Both offer great programs, but OU’s program is much higher ranked. Cost difference is about $15,000. So I am wondering whether it’s worth going to OU for all 4 years, go to OSU for two years and then OU for the last two or stay at OSU for all for years.
It is better to stick with the same school, provided if your family can afford that $15k or if you can take up a part time job and earn around $4k/year and can still balance the school work load related to this special program.
Again in depends on the program which you are referring. In some situations it may carry more weight than others. For example if you are going to do MBA, then school ranking is given more consideration where as let us say some engineering programs, the importance can be slightly less as long as the student can demonstrate strong practical knowledge like software programming or what ever the engineering discipline area of expertise. For medical, still you can choose mid tier and do well later in residency or research and can come out successfully in the career. That is what my D decided and joined OU. So the key is again it depends on the program and your personal financial situation. GL.
Major is Entrepreneurship. No plans for grad school.
@deljo, you seem hung up on finances. That being the case, a great entrepreneur would go a fourth route–start a business and make the money to pay for 4 years at OU! Boomer, Sooner!
