Okay so I need to know if my parents are normal.

Agree that working with your parents on what is helpful to include on your resume is a good thing, as they may have greater knowledge/insight into this. But controlling who/where you interview? Thats a bit much.

Very well put.

If your parents are going to pay $100K+ for your college, you can bet you a$$ they are going to be involved. If you think that they are dominating the process, assert yourself - but don’t expect them to blindly write checks.

They’re going way too far.

And this comment is from someone who religiously proof-read, spent 5 times longer researching schools than the kid did, made many suggestions, and even filled out the first draft of the CA activities section.

The difference is, I proofread his work. He was free to reject my suggestions. Yes, I researched colleges, but he chose the ones of interest (after my required financial and academic safety schools). And filling out the first draft of the activities section was more a way of writing a list of “don’t forget to include…” - I deliberately made it so that he’d need to rewrite it (put --------------- in all my inclusions to draw his attention to them).

Your parents can do a lot for you without taking over. They can research schools - there’s a TON of work to be done there. They can do the yucky admin parts - telling each school what you want to major in (I don’t know WHY that isn’t on the main part of the CA!). They can proofread, but NOT edit.

Good luck.
