Okay, so... question about grades

UF's acceptance is tentative on our successful completion of high school. I know people tell you not to slack off senior year, but I've been letting senioritis catch up to me.

My grades are as follows so far
1st quarter: AAA BB
2nd quarter: AAAA B
Exams: AA CCCC
Semester: AA BBBB

These grades aren't awful and haven't affected my GPA much at all, but is there a chance that UF could deny me admission for poor exam grades?

I don't know about UF specifically, but most colleges only look at final term or semester grades and don't bother with the fine details like exam grades versus class grades. (In fact, most high schools around here only list semester final grades on the official transcript anyway.)

So your A's and B's for the semester should be fine, but now you really need to buckle down and get back on track to make sure that you don't mess up this semester. Spring is the time when senioritis really hits you, but you should really make a concerted effort to maintain at least a B in every class.

Good luck!

Even if I got a C or two, would that be reason to decline admission?

If you got word last Friday that you are admitted, pass your classes and you're in. I'm not advising slacking off, but UF didn't even look at your midterm grades before making their decisions. They are not going to do anything more than make sure you actually passed all the required courses when you send your final transcript.

Don't worry about it. You could probably get all C's and still not have your admission revoked. I've never heard of anyone getting their admission revoked unless they actually failed a class. And your exam grades are not on your transcript, so they won't even be able to see those.

^are u KIDDING ME!

i just got a C in my AP Macro econ class and i an nearly (censored) my pants!

I am not willing to accept a C on my transcript that UF will see!

yea, try hard to maintain at least a ‘B’. You dont want to go from outstanding stellar to average and lazy. even though i hear it is rare that they will revoke the acceptance of a student, but dont test them.

It’s not the Ivy League, Cs won’t mean a revoked acceptance.

yeah so it looks like im gonna get a C/C+ as a final grade in AP Macro and maybe a C+/B- in AP Govt, but the rest of my classes are a mix of As and Bs, am I doomed?

update

so i got my report card for the 3rd quarter a few days ago and got a C for my AP macro clas (semester class i started in Jan).

so far thats the only C this year and i am unlikely to bring it up to a B since i currently have a C this quarter.

from the looks of things i am extremely likely to get 1 C in an AP class (macro) as a final grade and MAYBE another C as a final grade in AP gov.

so that means my senior grades will consist of a mix of As and Bs in regular/honors/and 1 AP classes and at least 1 or 2 Cs in AP classes

should i still be worried?

Ive heard in these forums that UF cares more about class rank than actual grades,
This is what the UF lady said (i called)
"To UF grades are not as important as class tank, we usually dont accept more than 10 people from a school (only eight from my school.)
Also SATs matter ALOT!!!
so if you got 2 Cs they wont care, but get a GOOD class rank, and SAT and you should be fine.
Ohh and community service, have like 500 hours, all my senior friends had that or more (the ones that got accepted.)
I have 2000. :)

^thanks but we are talking about those already admitted lol

repeat.

UF is not Yale/Harvard/Princeton/Dartmouth.

you’ra a gator. a C or 2 means squat.

good luck.

ohhhhhh congrats, alot of my friends are going to UF, so maybe you will see them.
Im a Junior so hopefully ill see you next year :)

Well the official answer from the Admission’s Office (I was just there the other day) is that you need to pass all HS classes with above a C or above. If you receive ANY Ds or lower(including ones in AP classes), then your offer will be revoked. That is a black and white rule, and only applies to FINAL grades.

^so someone that has been slacking can get away with straight Cs their senior year? that doesn’t seem fair to others.

ill call tomorrow.

How is that not fair to others? Anyone can choose to slack off, receive all C’s, yet not have their admission revoked.

Keep in mind scholarships and BF are still at risk. Even though admissions may not care about straight Cs, scholarship committees surely will. A lot of seniors I know are coasting through this last quarter/semester, but still keeping their grades afloat.

ii decided to call UF and ask them personally, i mean what better place to ask right?

unfortunately ive been sent to voice mails all day yesterday.

“Ohh and community service, have like 500 hours, all my senior friends had that or more (the ones that got accepted.)”

I have 64 hours. But then again I’m a minority and rank 16th out of my class of 490 so maybe it roughly evens out? Anyway, the college advisor at my school said that UF pretty much guarantees acceptance to the top 5% at a school. She’s been at her job since like the beginning of forever so Im sure she knows what she’s talking about.
