Housing is only open to admitted students, and I'm assuming that's only a few hundred people since only those up for scholarships and rare early acceptances have been admitted. I've got my heart set on Parkside, and as much as I want to secure a spot now, it's $40~ (non refundable) to apply, and I don't know if I'll be going to USC until I hear about financial aid and other scholarships. Is it okay to wait a few weeks or more? From previous years, around what date do most popular dorms fill up? (April 1st?)

About a thousand have been admitted so far.

If you are seriously considering USC, it is probably worth it to make the $40-$45 deposit, especially if you have your heart set on a particular dorm. It gives you high priority, and you can change your selections all the way up until May 1st and keep your priority.

Financial aid packages will arrive after the first week of April. If you wait to make your housing deposit until then, you will have very low priority.

For Parkside, you would probably be okay to wait until about the third week of March or even the end of March. Mid-April would likely be too late for Parkside.

Note: Parkside Arts & Humanities and IRC both require a supplemental application. [Application Information - Application Information](http://housing.usc.edu/Application/ApplicationInformation.aspx?secID=14)

Honestly, I would just invest that $40 right now and ensure that I live where I would want to live should I choose to come to USC - $40 is a small price to pay if it means you’ll be happy with your accommodations (especially since if you decide to come to 'SC you would have to pay it anyway)

I would apply now, at worst, you lose the $40.

Do you have to wait until being accepted to fully apply for housing? I set up my account and everything, but did not do the deposit and preferences part yet, and I doubt I will hear back for a while regarding my acceptance as I did regular decision. Thank you.

Since when does Parkside A&H and IRC require a supplemental application? My son lived there as a freshman and he did not have to do that. Isn’t it just if you want to live on a special interest floor? I thought only Parkside Apartments required the supplemental application.

^I do not know when the supplemental application first became a requirement, but I know it has been in place at least 5 years. It is not an extensive application, and it appears as part of the “regular” application when you choose Parkside IRC or Arts & Humanities, so it is possible your son filled it out as a matter of course. The only thing applicants must do is provide a brief statement (a paragraph) of why they would like to live in the residential college. https://uscstudentaffairs.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/SE/?SID=SV_6VWasixVP94lCdu

Alternatively, if he was placed in Parkside because there was not room in his higher choices, he would not have done the supplement.

No, his first choice was Parkside, and he definitely did not fill out a supplemental essay. And this would have been three years ago…

I was inquiring for next year with my daughter, thinking things had recently changed. Perhaps it still is only if you want a certain floor…I’ll have to call Housing just to double check.

I think it’s just for the special interest floors, but I may be remembering wrong.

Jazz/Shreddermom, that’s what I remembered too. Just wondered if it had changed.

does any have information about the thematic option?? should i apply now or can i wait?

You should do the housing application as soon as possible. Parkside is definitely for those who are fine with not being social. However, I lived in Parkside my freshman year and decided to join a fraternity to gain the social aspect of USC. I liked Parkside because it was quiet and private showers are nice, but I still spent most of my time that wasn’t sleep at new/north or the house
