Oklahoma MBA

I'd like to do the petroleum engineering/mba program but I heard than an mba outside the top 15 schoos is worthless. Is it worth pursuing?

As a general rule, you only get 1 shot in life to do an MBA. If you intend to use it to as an advancement tool or for a career change, I sure the heck wouldn’t get it at Oklahoma. If you definitely want to make a career as a petroleum engineer and just want an MBA for the heck of it (or maybe to help wiggle your way into mid-level engineering management), then I’m sure an Oklahoma MBA is fine.

If you’re talking about the 5-year MBA/PE undergrad program at Oklahoma, I would strongly recommend not doing it. You won’t get much out of the MBA program without a few years of work experience, and as you know, the Oklahoma MBA is not very valuable. Instead, I’d get the PE degree, work for 3-4 years, then get admitted to a top 15 full-time MBA program. After adding a marketable MBA to your undergrad PE degree, you should really be making some bank.

If you are not doing a T15 MBA, get a job and make work pay for it. The MBA is not that valuable outside of a top school.
