Ole Miss Scholarships

Daughter received final financial aid letter late this week. Nothing new. Academic Excellence and Holmes totaling $103,536 or $25,884 annually. She made up her mind to attend Ole Miss after getting in Lott and Honors. Glad this part of the process is over!!

My niece is planning on attending Ole Miss in the Fall out of state. She has over a 3.0 GPA and got a 24 on the ACT. I noticed that there are academic excellence scholarships that start with a GPA over 3.0 and an ACT score of 25. Her parents would like to hire a tutor for her and get her to take the test again and see if she can get one of those scholarships. The deadline listed on the Ole Miss website for the academic excellence scholarships is “Qualifying tests must be taken prior to enrollment as a new freshman at The University of Mississippi.” However, I just called the Ole Miss financial aid hotline, and a nice fellow there named Bradley told me that as long as the scores are reported to Ole Miss prior to starting classes in August she’d be eligible. I specifically asked if the May SAT and June ACT would count then, and he said yes. Does this jive with other people’s experiences?

I can’t remember the finer points but I would certainly trust him on that.

Also, it is common for colleges/universities to have such a policy. For instance, the university of alabama at huntsville does that.

I think it’s a great policy, if true.

@Unclebrian Since the Academic Excellence scholarships are automatic, Ole Miss will take the May/June tests for those particular awards. Competitive awards, however, will be based on the scores that the students have early in the spring at those deadlines. So, it is a correct statement that they will continue to take the scores for AE consideration.

is there any awards for honors college for international students???by what deadline’s application will ensure scholarships, like will act of April ensure scholarships at olemiss??

@gawgawn All deadlines still apply to international students. Honors College applications were due January 5th, and general scholarship apps were due February 15th. If you have taken the ACT/SAT, you can continue to submit those scores to the university until June. Honors College scholarships are awarded competitively, not automatically. http://international.olemiss.edu/scholarships-undergraduate/

If I submit my april ACT scores, will i be able to receive scholarship worth 22,800$ as an international student???Wont any funding availability issue come @collegeguider ???

@gawgawn The Academic Excellence scholarship would still apply there since it does not require a specific application.
