Remind him he has to clean the bathroom himself. That may do it.
@misslissa - We looked at the METP program but DS didnât apply because he isnât sure what he wants to do. It sounds like a great program though if you know for sure you want to be a teacher. Congratulations!
Unlike many schools, my understanding is that Ole Miss awards all of its ânamedâ scholarships. So as students inform the school that they wonât be attending, these scholarships will be offered to other people. Other schools only have one offering and know up front that only a fraction of those offered scholarships will accept.
My son was accepted into the Honors College, and they require an acceptance by May 1. However, they did ask to be notified as soon as possible if he knew he wouldnât be attending so his slot could be offered to another student. Thereâs a fine line between trying to be courteous and considerate of others and keeping oneâs options open.
@EarlVanDorn The question remains, have all the named scholarships been distributed? Have ANY named scholarships been distributed?
We want to be courteous and release the spot to another applicant but if S were awarded one of the scholarships, Ole Miss would move back in play.
So we wait.
ETA: S has received two emails from Ole Miss asking him his intentions. They give two choices, yes or no. It would be helpful if they had a âmaybeâ choice with a place to put an explanation. Again, he worked hard on the scholarship essays. If they choose not to let him know whether or not he won one of them, they will have to wait.
@STEM2017 My D received the same emails and cannot respond for the same reason.
@EarlVanDorn What are you including in named scholarships?
Iâm thinking mid-April, just to keep things crazy in our house!
Sounds like we are in the same boat @STEM2017 and @itsgettingreal17. My D is on the fence and I think knowing status of scholarships at Ole Miss would push her one way or the other. In her Honors College acceptance letter it stated she was a finalist for one of the Honors College scholarships and would hear something mid-March - but no word yet. So for now the crazy continues.
@itsgettingreal17 Iâm calling the ânamedâ scholarships the "Newman, Carrier, Vick Hill, plus the Accounting school scholarships, the Honors College scholarships, plus perhaps a few more. My son was offered one of the $3,000 per year Accounting scholarships and very grateful for the offer. of course, one of the $8,000 or $10,000 per year scholarships would have been very nice!
Anyone heard anything?
Nothing here. Losing hope.
Same hereâŠ
The Award Status page currently saysâŠ
Hopefully there will be some new info in Sâs package. But Iâm not holding out much hope. Good luck all!
My son is a junior. I canât wait to go through all of this fun WaitingâŠ
Ole Miss was very good about giving answers and decisions quickly and early. But S applied for the special scholarship back in October and hasnât heard a peep from them. He didnât just check a box for the scholarships. He filled out an entire application and wrote two very thoughtful essays. They took him several hours to complete. The right thing for them to do is notify him that he was or was not awarded.
I have a strong feeling he wasnât awarded.
I have a feeling they have known this for months.
I just wish they would have let us know.
@STEM2017 in an earlier post @collegeguider said âMost programs will continue to award scholarships until all are filledâ. Isnât it likely that all the awards havenât been filled yet? The way I read this is that it can be awarded to someone but if they donât choose Ole Miss it will be redistributed. @collegeguider is most likely an employee at Ole Miss. If not, definitely someone in the know. I believe all their posts on CC have been about Ole Miss.
Good luck to your son. Iâm sure he will do well wherever he ends up.
My daughter says that final financial aid package letters were mailed on Saturday.
D received an email awarding her an additional scholarship. They may be nearing the end, so check financial aid portal and email.
Portal updated for S.
He was âawardedâ a $5,500 student loan. I was âawardedâ a $24,000 parent loan.
No additional scholarship money.
Unfortunately, Ole Miss wonât be happening for S.
Ugh sorry stem2017, it seems like that one was high on your S listâŠNothing new for S here either.
No competiitive scholarships⊠on the bright side, my family only has to pay $5500 a year, and I can get the Valedictiorian/Salutatorian scholarship to cover some of it
