Ole miss?!?

so im thinking of going to ole miss for a year or so, and then transferring. i want to transfer somewhere prestigous like tufts, hopkins, uva etc, but i dont have the grades to go right out of HS. i've heard that the only good part about ole miss academically is their IR programs, which coincidentally is what i plan on majoring in.
so i was wondering a few things, how easy is it to transfer to a prestigous school, from a low tier state school like ole miss, and also if anyone has experiences w/ole miss, would they like to let me know of it... thanks...

from what i have been told for some prestigous universities (not all) it is easier to get in as a transfer student than right out of high school

^thanks
bump

really? hmm i thought it was harder to transfer

depends on the university pretigious public universities like michigan are generally easier to get in as a transfer im sure the same concept holds true for some privates

^prestigious public are easier to transfer in the sense that they have certain obligations to take CC students and it might be easier to maintain a certain GPA at a CC after being a mature adult (18-20) than it is to get good grades, good SAT, good ECs as a high school student (14-17). It is tougher to transfer to a top private because spots are so limited and competition can be tough. Also, for a school like UVA, it might be very hard to transfer into if you are not a VA resident. Most people who I know that transfer to a state school are residents of the state.

Also, I wouldn't enter ole miss with the intention of transferring out after a year. I feel like it would make the experience less enoyable. Enter college with the intention of being there for 4 years.

What might OleMiss be like for a non-partying, "quirky", some-what hippyish looking student who is from the west but raised in the South? He likes warm weather, history, psych, music (near Memphis is a plus)? He qualifies for the honors college, based on the website. He's not into college football or frat life. He makes friends easily, though.

He needs some safeties and affordability is also key.

^^^
probably not very fun. Although I am definitely making a broad generalization here, Ole Miss is, from what I understand, a huge party school where being preppy and fratty is very important in the social life. It is however, very very affordable; and if you have decent grades and good test scores then you should get some pretty good scholarships.

im a resident of virginia.. thing is virginia tech isnt a match for me, i MIGHT be able to get in, but im not counting on it.
radford is somewhat a safety, im on the level of jmu students really, i want to transfer to UVA, but i'd rather transfer somewhere like tufts or hopkins..

another question, would i be able to use the fact that im a virginia resident NOW, to my advantage for transferring to UVA?

my advice is to take it all one step at a time....no offence but if you are unsure that you will be able to get into VT, what makes you think you will be able to get into johns hopkins, tufts, or UVA? And if you want to transfer to UVA, I would suggest community college rather than going to Ole Miss. State schools have a responsibility to accept a large amount of students from community colleges. Also, you shouldn't attend other universities with the intent of transfering out; if you have it set in your mind that you are only going to a school for a year-- or whatever-- then you will never allow yourself to get comfortable. Also, the Croft Institute at Ole Miss is competitive admissions even if the school itself is less so, is this a viable option for you?

Apply to VT and JMU, and I'd go with VCU or Radford over Miss. It will be easy to transfer into UVA from any in-state VA public if you have a 3.5+, especially if you're transferring as a junior (your HS record matters more if you transfer as a sophomore)

You live in NoVA? I heard that the community college in Arlington has this thing where you get guaranteed transfer (with a good GPA I'm assuming) to any VA school, including UVA and William & Mary. I don't know if that applies to all community colleges in VA, but it's worth looking into.

i really don't want to go to a community college, especially if i dont really need to. radford, vcu, and mason are matches/safetys. i dont wanna be too close to home (i live 10 minutes away from mason) so jmu is a little close but its okay i guess. One of the reasons i was thinking of going to ole miss is because of the networking opportunities and whatnot, i guess the same can be done somewhere like jmu or tech, but i dont know.
