<p>rjsprst, I didn't come into this thread trying to tell people not to believe in God. My original post said that our government is not based on the ten commandments (BTW anyone trying to base government on religion WILL hurt me), and I proved that to be true. Then I got some trite response trying to show that I our government (not just our culture but the governemnt) is based on the ten commandments. Then I was insulted multiple times and here we are. </p>

yes, I just went back and read everything, though you guys got childish + started insulting each other, all he wrote was his OPINION</p>

It's interesting how you and many other Atheists disagree with billions of people who have lived/live on this planet and have believed/believe in the existence of God. I highly doubt that all of those billions of people (Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims) are all wrong in their belief about God's existence. <strong>and also</strong> Science and religion are two separate subjects. Regardless of whether people in the past considered natural disasters or other scientific phenomena to be the occurences of God, billions of people living in the world in modern times believe in God.

ok so they are one subject. if you read history books, the idea of god originated by people trying to explain nature. For instance, the sun. People wanted to know where it comes from, and why it leaves at night... so they developed stories about gods (egyptians.. the god Ra). As you see religion was developed because of the lack of science available to explain the world.</p>

<p>That is why it was developed, but why it has caught on and so many people believe in religion/god.... as i said before.. and I quote myself:

As I stated before, religious texts and religions themselves aren't perfect because they were created by humans. Perhaps you should visit a 3rd World country and see the poor there. Most likely you will see that although they have no material possessions and suffer daily, they are stronger than you in several aspects of living because of their faith. When there's so much power that comes from faith for those individuals, you will see that God exists.

Read the quote that I just wrote above starting with "People need..."
You see this is not why god exists, this is what happens when you believe he exists.
This is the result of the belief in god. Not the cause of the existence of god.
That's why the belief in god/religion can be so poweful and good!!</p>

<p>Lastly, I understand we both have different opinions on god, I am simply pointing out where I believe you are wrong/inaccurate; this doesn't mean that I don't respect you belief. I do</p>

<p>You have to have more faith to be an atheist than you do to actually believe in God because hey we are more than likely right. And so wat if your right, well then nothing bad will happen and its not like you can say "i told you so".</p>
