"Sohrab: You're indirectly acknowledging God's existence in your last post.

Quote:
Just because God doesn't respond to the million (or billions) doesn't mean he hates those people.

Or am I wrong in saying this?"

You are wrong, I mere stated God's existence is unrelated to your happiness.

"People need to believe in something greater. That there is a reason for life. That something perfect and better then us exists. That there is a reason that some things happen, and it is not a coincidence. Like Claridge said, there were times were he could have been killed but wasn't and he felt the presense of this "higher" being, this is a perfect example.

And Sohrab, why do you have to prove that god doesnt exist? Some people believe god exists, others need to believe he exists. Let them believe, it doesnt hurt you (theres no use arguing + + that they believe in something you consider illogical, unproven, and false that doesnt make them "stupid" or ur view better)"

rjsprst, I didn't come into this thread trying to tell people not to believe in God. My original post said that our government is not based on the ten commandments (BTW anyone trying to base government on religion WILL hurt me), and I proved that to be true. Then I got some trite response trying to show that I our government (not just our culture but the governemnt) is based on the ten commandments. Then I was insulted multiple times and here we are.

Personally,
I don't believe God exists
NOT
I believe there is no God.

We can't prove the existence of God, so why believe in him?

"Once again brother lose/lose situation. So you say that an infinite can exist, but you also said god being infinite is an assumption. That is a condrictation. In conclusion, taking you own you words into accont, I conclude that you can not dismiss the possibility of there being a god. "

No I can't say I can prove God doesn't exist, but I need a much more convincing argument to prove that he does exist.

are u a resident of california?

Sohrab, ic
i didnt see the posts where you were insulted, so assumed u were just trying to tell ppl how stupid their belief in religion is... (no mods in this forum?)

personally i'm agnostic... but basically believe there is no god wth the info we have now (till im proven wrong ;) )

didnt see the posts where you were insulted, so assumed u were just trying to tell ppl how stupid their belief in religion is... (no mods in this forum?)

Thats exactly wat he was doing, so dont try to make it seem like he was stating something. Did you read the pages and pages of crap he posted????

yes, I just went back and read everything, though you guys got childish + started insulting each other, all he wrote was his OPINION

so here is my OPINION:
ok so they are one subject. if you read history books, the idea of god originated by people trying to explain nature. For instance, the sun. People wanted to know where it comes from, and why it leaves at night... so they developed stories about gods (egyptians.. the god Ra). As you see religion was developed because of the lack of science available to explain the world.

That is why it was developed, but why it has caught on and so many people believe in religion/god.... as i said before.. and I quote myself:
[hr]
Read the quote that I just wrote above starting with "People need..."
You see this is not why god exists, this is what happens when you believe he exists.
This is the result of the belief in god. Not the cause of the existence of god.
That's why the belief in god/religion can be so poweful and good!!

Lastly, I understand we both have different opinions on god, I am simply pointing out where I believe you are wrong/inaccurate; this doesn't mean that I don't respect you belief. I do

and another quote... think about this one!!

"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer gods than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

You have to have more faith to be an atheist than you do to actually believe in God because hey we are more than likely right. And so wat if your right, well then nothing bad will happen and its not like you can say "i told you so".
