OMG, I am screwed for AP literature tomorrow help!

Ok, I haven't really been studying, since seriously, how do you study? I'm going to brush up on my literary terms, which is easy to memorize

other than that, for the mc practice tests, I keep scoring 1-2, mostly 1s...fml

what should I do? Just go in there and hope for the best? Will top colleges reject me if I get a failing mark? I already failed AP euro...got a 1 on it...

fmlfmlfmlfmlfmflmflfmlfm

I write beautiful essays- in class, I score 9s on them, but that is only because he lets us take it home and edit it. I take like 2 hours to turn it into a work of art! haha..I might be ok writing some bs in 40 minutes, but seriously..I think I am screwed

So my main question is, will top colleges like Stanford, etc (when looking at my app next year) reject me when they see 2 1s or 2 failing grades...arghh

I'm going to try and think positive...and hope for the best..

bump bpleas\e!

There’s really no way to study! Look over your literary terms, maybe think of a few good vocabulary words to use in your essays (SAT words are always a plus!) and look over the plots and themes of the books you’ve read this year. I wish you the best of luck.

You need to bring your essay scores… I can’t believe your teacher let you take your writing home and edit them! That’s ridiculous! We spent a lot of time on timed-writing essays, so it’s not that big of a deal for us.

1) Know a book very well. In fact, know it so well that you won’t have a problem writing about it in 40 minutes. I’m hoping you read one of these: Beloved, Great Gatsby, Invisible Man, Tess (by Thomas Hardy), Paradise Lost, Huck Finn. Those are the commonly used ones.

2) I really don’t know how you’re going to do this, but… train your mind to analyze poems in less than 10 minutes.

3) Pray.

I don’t think top colleges will reject you for 2s but they may for failing grades.

Ok…I’ll try…I know vocab, I guess

I am good with Hamlet but what if we get a prompt (for the free reponse) that does not even make sense and doesn’t apply to any of the books we read (for my class)…

what do we do in that scenario?

And yea, poems and prose **** me off because it is written in a weird way

^It’s best if you know a novel. A play won’t do you much good since the prompt will ask you to use a book/novel for your essay. If the books you read in class are not listed, you are still allowed to use a literary piece that is acknowledged. For instance, although Tess and Great Gatsby won’t always be on the list–but they usually are–you may still use them. Crime and Punishment is always acceptable and tends to pop up on the list often as well, so if you read it, you can use it for your third prompt.

Although Hamlet is a play, I have used it numerous times because it has a lot of themes…plus its one of the only stories I actually get.

I have never read Crime and Punishment, and Great Gatsby, I am not so good with…

I might be ok with HoD, if it asked a morally ambiguous question, but other than that…

lol…i remember i saw one prompt from a previous test asking about religion??? would the crucible work in that case?

Whoa. I’m really nervous for tomorrow. In a set of 10 MC questions I get a score of 2.5/10. I answer everything. Any suggestions on how many questions I should skip on the MC section? Or suggestions for MC overall? That’s the only part that is worrying me. That and the poem essay. :(

Prose > Poetry

I’m really hoping for a 3. I know I’m worthy of a 4 though. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m really, really nervous.
So scared! Just thinking about it gets my heart racing. :(

Hamlet works great, although to be fair its every student’s favorite. So basically you wont score any originality points (if they exist).

1984 works really well too for anything government/choice related.

Im f***** also the highest i’ve scored on question 1 and 2 essays is a 5 (in class timed) and i generally do pretty bad on MC

lol yeah…but I am going to think positive! the power of positive thinking can overcome even the greatest obstacle!

btw, anyone want to compile a list of hooks before we delve into those essays tomorrow?

haha

like for different topics, light, dark, etc

Did you ever practice writing an essay in 40 minutes? If you didn’t that’s not good. My teacher would give us timed writings in class (we had about 45 minutes to do them) and if we didn’t finish, that was tough. She graded them too based on AP standards (she is an AP grader). I got some ****ty grades at first. I have always been a good writer too but it is very different writing a good essay in such a short amount of time.

well for our final, we did…and i finished (maybe like 1 or 2 minutes after the 40 minutes were up)…and I thought i did pretty good. however,t he prompts were not that difficult, i think it was the 2002 ap exam…not sure but yea

i have the ability to do that and do well ont he mc…but i suck under time and pressure

Do colleges actually look at AP Exams grades and rescind if the scores are too low?

I honestly have no insight into the matter, but it’s hard to believe that a “bonus” exam could actually work against you.

^thats what a lot of people say…

im screwed

lol colleges will absolutely never rescind anyone over AP scores

what about rejecting applicants because of a failing grade?

Wow… my multiple choice raw scores are all over the place: 25, 35, and 13. English is my favorite subject, but I just don’t want to take this.

My first AP practice I scored 38/55 w/o skipping any.

The next one I got 29… that’s almost a 10 difference, so I’m pretty scared about the MC. Though, I dose off easily, so maybe that’s why.

If I get consistent 7/8 and a 35 right on the MC, what do think I’ll get?
I really want a 5, but I saw the grading scale on Wiki, and only ~7% of people get 5’s, isn’t that pretty low?

Also, does The Glass Menagerie work? I thought plays can be used.

colleges won’t rescind, so don’t worry…now go to sleep the test is at 8.
