omg White Power

There really is no need for white pride groups because whites, as most of you know, makeup the majority of this country's population. In the past, minorities have often conformed to "white standards" to be socially accepted, hence the black pride movement in the 1960's.

IMHO, I agree with the school if it was a real decision. I mean think about it. The club was probably created as a negative response to the "black power club". Also, the phrase is synonymous with racism as opposed to "black power" which is synonymous with combating opression. (At least in the public's eyes) To prove my point let's make it more simple. The swastika was originally a symbol made by Indian Indians. (Not sure what kind but it was peacful) But a nut job named Hitler changed it into a symbol of holocaust. Would an Indian Culture Club be able to utlize a swastika as its logo? So don't think some races get away things while others do not.

^^
Actually there is a Hindu car blessing ritual that involves drawing a swastika. I mean, everyone knows about Hitler, but Indians were using that symbol thousands of years before he did, so they don't see it as a big deal. It's pretty funny to see a newly transplanted Indian drive around with that on his car's hood, not knowing why everyone's honking at him. Not so funny when you're in the car

As for the race thing, I never understood ethnic pride. Culture clubs - fine. If you want to learn more about the history and habits of a group, that makes sense. But to join a group based soley on your race, and be proud of it? That makes no sense. I mean, just because you are white, do you get some claim to the genius of Newton, Edison or Oppenheimer? Just because you're Black, do you get to say you're anything like Martin Luther King Jr or Thurgood Marshall? Just cause you're Chinese.... etc. That's why I find it funny that it's the dregs of society - the ones who have nothing else to be proud of - who are usually the most vocal about racial pride.

What we need is some sort of giant asteroid or alien invasion, to make everyone forget about silly superficial distinctions and realize we're all in it together.
