Ominous E-mail

Oh my…deja vu! I remember the confusion and concern this letter generated, last year. It trickled into various applicants’ mailboxes over the course of about 10 days. Some people (including my son) never got one. Hypotheses as to what it all meant were as abundant as asparagus in May…but, in the final analysis, nobody in this discussion group uncovered any correlation between time of receipt and admission decision.

As to my dear friend Modadunn’s suggestion that this might be the Midd Admissions Office’s effort to calm EVERYONE down a little: if the over-caffeinated, neurotic readers of this board are any indication, the letter was a dismal failure!

Hm, I didn’t get this, but my friend with inferior stats did. I’m going to chalk this up as an effort to prep unqualified applicants for rejection because that makes me feel better about myself :). But I’m sure it means nothing.

to sunmachine: my D got in EA to CC also! My S currently goes there and is so happy. D will probably end up there but is waiting on a few more schools. Good luck with your process!

Alright, so now I’m starting to worry…

Are these e-mails “anti-likely letters” (aka unlikely letters) or do they have no correlation with acceptances? I never considered Middlebury a saftey (I don’t think anyone can) but I thought I had a pretty decent shot at getting accepted. Four kids from my school got accepted last year and are attending, and I have comparable if not superior stats to them. But now that I got this e-mail, and some CC users with good stats DID NOT, I’m expecting the worst.

I’m quite sure the letter goes to everyone. Three years ago, my son got one and we expected the worse - then he got in and we were very pleasantly surprised!

Butterfly17, the financial aid email just asks for more financial aid stuff. “2nd request Important information required for your financial aid application to Middlebury College” is the subject of the email I got.

I, too, remember this letter from Midd back a few years ago. My D applied and was accepted, though decided to attend elsewhere. I remember she read it and basically tossed it in the “circular file” and indicated that it was “just some letter from admissions explaining the process.” No big deal. Not to worry. It is meant for everyone. Parents too.

Best of Luck to all!

HeartLikeASocket: OMG OMG OMG! I got one of those tooooooooo!! I mean, it didnt say “2nd request” but certainly had a “Important information for financial aid…”!!! [i’m such a weirdo]

Lol it’s very exciting, butterfly.
But not letting myself speculate about any potential significance.

Ahh I was worried about that e-mail as well…it seemed like it was saying “trust me, we evaluated your application carefully and we still think that you sucked.”

Luckily the subject line said “A Message to ALL Applicants,” or else I would take this as a bad omen.

I have a hard time believing it’s actually a message to all applicants… but I’m pretty cynical, so don’t take my word for it.

I got that e-mail, but not the financial aid one. I’m feeling a waitlist coming on. But you know, I think I’m okay with that. Middlebury is probably not the best fit for me.

Yikes, I haven’t gotten one yet. I hope they’re sent out in waves.

Hmph I didn’t get one either… O_O

I got the email. But then other quite impressive applicants (Keilinger, for example, who IIRC received an early write from Amherst), didn’t get the email… it makes me nervous!

The Government:

I’m in the same boat as you. Some people from last year got a very similar letter, however, and were accepted. Therefore, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Okay, well that’s somewhat reassuring.

Damn I just wanna know if I got in or not!

^My sentiments exactly.

Be reassured folks… I know five people who all got in regular decision and all got the letter (as did we as parents). And keep the faith… pretty soon the cards will be in YOUR hands instead of admission’s!!

What do you think are the chances of a Bowdoin Early Write getting into Middlebury RD?

I’d say they’re pretty good. I was a Bowdoin Early Write and was accepted to Middlebury RD. Are you a URM by any chance? Bowdoin likes to send Early Writes to URMs.
