S received the small envelope from Admissions today. Not THAT small envelope. This was just a note explaining the 7200 apps. this year, the rigorous app. process etc. Kind of an unlikely letter.

But did you have to send it in a small envelope from Admissions?? lol. . . .

I do not see any reason what so ever to interpret this letter as an unlikely letter. With only two weeks to go the school has no reason to hint that a kid may not get in. I think it is a hang in there you will know soon letter. Please, in these tense times there is no reason to postulate negatively based upon the language in this letter.

I just got one too. I was trying to figure out whether they sent it to everyone. Like, the body of the letter just explains the process, but at the end, there are two paragraphs which look like they are prepping me for a rejection letter...did anyone on here get these last year, and then end up getting in, or for that matter, not?

Sarcasm does travel thru the electronic wasteland.... With all the tension I never meant to suggest that it was literally an "UNlikely letter." It's not even signed. Reads like a "hang in there - you'll know soon" or "it's a very competitive group we have to choose..." type of thing. A form letter that looks as though everyone will be getting - which I guess, statistically, makes it an unlikely letter. In NY btw.

I just called the Admissions office and was directly told that all applicants got this letter and it is sent out every year. Parents will also soon get their own form letter. IT IS NOT TO BE CONTRUED AS A NEGATIVE ONLY INFORMATIVE. So everyone relax!!!!!!

I got this kind of letter from binghamton university, which was my safety.
It just said that Bing received 25,000 applicants this year. I never thought of interpreting it as an unlikely letter (ha).

everyone needs to chill and let Midd do its thing
"Come on, if getting a letter--any kind of letter---is the worst thing that happens to you in life--you're gonna have a GREAT life!
You're gonna get into a school and in the end--all the letters in your life--or grades--or test scores--or activities---or A's or B's won't mean anything--in the end it's gonna be how you meet challenges--grow from your failures and celebrate your victories--and have the will to do your best each day"

(advice from my S--who's in remission from leukemia--and waiting to hear from schools like everyone else)

I totally thought it was an unlikely letter too! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was freaking out about it!! This is more reassuring! thanks!
