One kid in my school received an email from Midd talking about how they evaluate the application, and it's a tough process. I told him this letter meant nothing, but he was too sensitive to believe that. He thought it was some kind of rejection. Does anyone else got the letter?

I got that email too…
It said “To All Applicants”… I hope it doesn’t mean that.

get it too…hope it’s not a bad sign

They really send it to everyone…sent it last year, too.

I’m positive it goes to everyone.

Class 14 receive this email too, so don’t worry. It does go to every applicant.

YEs… I got accepted ED2 and they sent it to me too… after I have been accepted…
So, it’s just for our information…
Good Luck to everyone…hope to meet u in Vermont…:-D

D received it last year and was accepted. Do not worry!

My interpretation was: “We’re working on it; be patient; we haven’t forgotten about you; don’t call us unless you need to.”

@chnews yea. mine too.

Has anyone else’s parents gotten an e-mail from the Dean?

^ The letter people are referring to is from the Dean, is it the same one?

Edit: My mom just got the letter.

I am a parent, and I received one today. It didn’t sound terribly encouraging…

what did the email say?

My parents received the letter today. They also received it when my brother applied, and he was accepted. While it doesn’t seem very encouraging, it has no effect on admissions decisions.

S got the letter and we too got our own letter back in 2009 as well (class of 2013). So I am guessing this is standard protocol. Maybe they’ve updated the method of delivery for parents to email or something, but I am pretty sure it says the same thing: “The class was impressively talented and smart, there are lots of good colleges, and decisions are difficult to make. Don’t let this process define you.” All good advice and worth taking.

This is nothing to worry about everyone! It really is a letter to every single applicant. The purpose of the letter is unclear, especially considering pretty much all of us know all the information it contains, but I, an ED I admit, as well as several of my fellow ED’ers, received the letter as well.

Good luck to everyone on the 26th, and I REALLY hope to be meeting some/all of you come August! YAY Midd!

I’m a parent who got the letter via e-mail, and I guess I’m dumb enough to have actually found in encouraging, not discouraging. [Funny, as I’m typcially a glass half-empty kind of guy.] Then I came here to see the comments and quickly came to realize it’s neither encouraging nor discouraging, and that makes sense. It’s just well-intentioned advice to chill out.

I liked the letter. It’s a reminder that our kids are all great (they are!) and will all find a place to nest, whether or not it’s Middlebury.

I liked the letter too! It’s nice to be reminded that the sun will come out even after the rain. Our kids will end up where they are meant to be.
