My parents just got back the tax forms and such to fill out things like FAFSA and the CSS Profile. However, I was searching online and found that all my schools had CSS deadlines of January 1. I can't go to college without financial aid.

I'm really upset because I worked so hard in high school and did well on my standardized tests (not CC-level good with multiple national awards, but I at least had a 3.9 and a 2270). Do I now have to resign myself to community college?! Is there anything I can do?

You’re not dead at alll. You can still fill it out and send it now! Im surprised the deadline is early. usually it would be at the time when people normally do their taxes. It says priority deadline but not the absolute deadline. Go ahead and send it!!

Ah, thank you so much! I thought you couldn’t submit anything after a deadline. Also, I know nothing about this kind of stuff because my parents don’t let me know anything about my family’s finances. Which stinks. Because if I did, I could’ve done these things myself before the deadline.

Well the CSS profile and FAFSA is used so that they come up with your financial aid. They wont be releasing that out until laterrr so you should send it now.

Lilme…many schools have early deadlines for both the FAFSA and the Profile. Students with those early deadlines do NOT wait until the taxes are completed. They submit the forms using the best possible estimates and they update these when the taxes are completed.

That being said, the OP to this thread should submit their forms NOW using the best possible estimates for 2012 income and taxes…use end of year pay stubs, and last years taxes as a guide.

Some folks might suggest you call the financial aid offices at the colleges. Most likely they will tell you to submit ASAP, but better to ask them.

And a red alert to others…DEADLINES are important. Look for them and don’t miss them.

^^^ Agree that the OP must submit the CSS ASAP . . . and call the colleges and ask them to accept the late filing.

Doesn’t matter if you file first or call first - just do both!
