Hello everyone!

I am a transfer student to UF. Originally, I thought that i was going to live on campus. I payed my $25 fee and then did the contract. However, I have never payed my $200 deposit because I decided to live with a few friends off campus. I thought that if you do not pay the $200 deposit you just lose your on campus spot and that is the end of it. However, now I have a hold on my account because I did not pay the $200. What should I do in order to take care of this situation? I will pay the $200 if that will take care of the situation and allow me to live off campus. But I do not want to make it seem like I still want my spot on campus. I am going to call them tomorrow to see what they say. Meanwhile though, any comments or advice? Thanks in advance!

I never payed my deposit, and I called and they told me that they would consider the contract invalid if the deposit isn’t payed, and it will eventually be removed. The charge has been on my account for a while, but I believe that it will be removed.

Thank you for your response, Funnells! One more thing, I have my orientation on May 25th and i believe that the charge will prevent me from registering. Did they tell you anything about that?

And it does seem to be true that if you did not pay your $200 they do not consider your contract. I looked at their appeal form and I had to indicate the address of the apartment, which you do not get if you do not pay $200.

I don’t know about that part since I never asked, but if I did still have that hold when I went to registration, I’d point out that the contract isn’t even valid, so it’s highly unlikely that it would prevent you from registering.

Of course, I don’t really know much about the housing and registration process, so I’m definitely not the best source of information. I’d call for that, or wait for a more knowledgeable person to appear.

Yeah I definitely want to take care of it. Living on campus would kill me because at this point they probably offer triples only or something like that. I will be doing my off campus lease contract so hopefully by then everything will be sorted out. And what is your situation? Are you transferring as well?

Im just wondering when they will remove the deposit thing from my account? How lond did you have yours for? Or you still have it on your account?

I’m sure a phone call to the housing office would take care of it. That hold could well prevent you from registering, and I doubt anyone at Preview will be able to do any more than tell you to go visit the housing office and try to get it sorted out. In the mean time, classes are filling up…

I’m also going to the 25 May Transfer Preview! See you there maybe.

I asked and they removed it.

I called this morning and they said that they will remove it within the next 2-3 days. The lady seemed to be in a rush so hopefully she didnt mess anything up lol -__- Either way, it should be taken care of before may 25th. The only thing I have to take care of now is health insurance lol And fo sho propwash ;)
