I will be attending RPI next fall semester as an exchange student and was wondering about housing. My two options are a double in Nugent or a double in the Quad. The room in Nugent is a lot bigger but the rooms are still about the same price. Why is this? Is the standard in Nugent worse or is it the distance to lectures etc. that causes the pricing difference? What do you think about the people living in the two? Anything I should know about? Since I'll only be at RPI for half a year I'll probably want to socialize a lot and not sit locked in my room. Do you think the distance to Nugent from central campus might be a problem? From the virtual map one can't really get a good grip about distances...

it's mainly the distance. Nugent is actually very nice. It's either singles or doubles. There are two rooms, with a bathroom in between just for those two rooms. The rooms are set up very well also, with bookcases set up in the middle so, it ends up looking like you have pretty much your own half of the room. the distance is why the price is the same as quad. quad is literally 2-5 min from most classes, nugent on the hand is like 5-15 from all classes. The rooms in quad are small, depending on where you're staying. some are pretty big though. The best part of quad though is that it's close to pretty much everything. The distance of nugent is definetly NOT a problem. unless you wanna roll out of bed and go straight to class, go for quad. otherwise you want nugent.

Definitely go Nuget, I lived in Nugent last year, and I'm once again living in Nugent. The rooms are doubles with a barrier inbetween both sides for privacy, which is kinda nice. The Quad has very small rooms, but is closer to campus (Nugent is a 5-15 minute walk to class while Quad is literally next to a couple academic buildings).
