On campus stores

Hi.
Dumb question but, i was wondering if UVa has any on campus stores. Like to buy groceries and personal care items and the like. I'm guessing they should but I've never heard it mentioned before...

There is a bookstore that carries personal care items. There is also a CVS on the Corner, near the Rotunda. The dining halls have most of the grocery items you will need, in addition to the small convenience food stores around the dorms (Crossroads has cereal, milk, frozen foods, snacks, etc, and some mini-stores like Sbarro). The closest full grocery stores are a bus ride away at Barracks Rd.

There are some convenience stores on campus, such as Crossroads and C3–but the products are incredibly overpriced. Something like $7 for a box of cereal, $10 for a bottle of cough medicine, etc. I’d definitely stick to the stores hazelorb mentioned.

Plenty of stores there…

Cohn’s at The Corner is a small convenience store, and there is a new grocery opening up there as well.

Yes but it is extremely overpriced

You can take the Charlottesville Area Transit to Walmart if you can’t get another ride there. The savings really pile up. Harris Teeter is a rip, even with their VIC card.

You can just go to the other side of Barracks and go to Kroger, which is cheap and gives a 5% discount to UVA students. Teeter might give a discount as well, but Kroger is still much cheaper.

Thank you for mentioning Kroger Hazel. My sons did not go to that end of the plaza and did not realize Kroger was there until I came out to take them grocery shopping. They thought Harris Teeter was it and figured there would not be two grocery stores in one place.

Someone else just said that to me the other day!!! I went to Teeter my first year but switched to Kroger once I had a car and could drive. I don’t even have a VIC card but I still get my 5% UVA Kroger discount. You don’t really have to go to the grocery store that much your first year anyways. I would not have gone my first year at all really if I were not Jewish and needed non-bready snacks for Passover (the dining hall attempts but fails miserably to do good meals for Passover, and Hillel also used to do better by bringing meals on grounds but now only has them off grounds at their building). I think it’s good to learn how to navigate the buses but really with the first year dining plan you shouldn’t need to go. I used to buy all of my other convenience items at the bookstore or downtown CVS when I was there for work. Now with CVS on the corner everything is all set.
