On campus vs. Apartment?

Can anyone give some advice: Which is better? Living on campus or getting an apartment? Or better yet, which is more recommended? Also, how much do apartments usually go for in Gainesville (renting)?

Thanks

first time in college… i.e. freshman… living in doors is a great experience. you meet soooooo many people.

anything other than that i advise an apartment.

that’s just me though.

apartment…

It really depends on who you are and how you’d like your experience to be. If you don’t care too much about socializing, I would go for an apartment. Some apartments are very different though; I think you’ll find that the further away it is from campus, the best living experience you’ll have. Hopefully you can get an all-inclusive room… they usually cost about $500/month. It isn’t too much compared to a regular on-campus dorm. If you want the best of both worlds, I think Lakeside would be good for you. It’s an apartment-style dorm, costs a little more than a regular dorm, but you get your own room. I think on-campus is better for the first year because it’ll help you get to know the campus more, and you will have an RA there for you if you need anything. When you go off-campus, you are all on your own…

I somewhat disagree with the poster above.

I am a freshman living off campus and I do care about socializing. It’s true that it would be easier to get to know a few more freshmen by living in a dorm because of your roommates, but living off campus does not put you at a disadvantage. You just have to be committed to socializing whether living off or on campus, go to sports or other clubs that intrigues you, go to the southwest rec center to play basketball or something and make new friends. But I do agree with the fact that you get to know the campus a little bit more if you live on campus. But if you want to live off campus make sure you have a car cause it can be a bit annoying to take the bus everywhere besides classes.
