Dorms or Apartments for first year students?

I haven't filled a housing app so I guess it's an apartment for me lol But which do you think is better? Am I missing out on a lot not living in a dorm?

do you think it’s too late to get a dorm? =[

It is not too late to sign up for housing. If you hurry. There is something to be said about dorm life helping your to get to know more folks. And driving to campus and trying to park every day can be, well, frustrating. And worrying about shopping for food, and cooking…or being a slave to fast food. I suggest you consider doing it for one year. Then you get to know the campus, the off campus housing and its quirks, and you have established yourself with a circle of friends and acquaintances. If you have a large circle of friends from your school going, and you don’t live in the dorms, you risk continuing to hang out in the same group for another 4 years. Just some thoughts. There are pros and cons. But it is not too late to sign up for on-campus housing.

is it really hard to make friends living in an apartment? i dont want to live in a dorm. i really need my own room lol

is it that necessary to have your own room?

@KatrinaJoy, It’s not difficult making friends in an apartment complex, but it really depends on where you live. If you want to try apartment living, find an apartment complex that is designed for students. I live in a 4-bedroom 2-bath and have three roommates. I’m pretty sure that every single person in this complex is a college student. My only problem is that I’m not really into partying/clubbing/massive alcohol consumption, so it’s difficult fitting in with people here. It’s a great atmosphere for anyone looking for socialization, though.

Thanks Hurley! Thats what I wanted to hear! lol I really want to meet lots of people but I def need a place where I can be alone too. Do you have any suggestions for apartments? I’m planning on driving out there soon but its such a long drive!

seminole grand is pretty cool, west 10, boardwalk, are all good

Colony Club is walking distance from campus (its literally across the street from the college of medicine and Fresh Food) and I can get to the Union from there in 20 minutes walking. AND there is a bus stop in the front that takes me all over campus. However, this is my first year in an apartment, I spent the first 3 years on campus. Mostly because I don’t have to find parking, I can wake up right before class, and there are always friends around. Another advantage to living on campus a year is that we all have our opinions about the different apartments, and its easy to get “tricked” into an apartment that ends up being crap. You can kind of feel them out before you buy if you give it a year.

How is Southgate?
