I recently attended an information session on Northwestern and the rep. told us that it would be in our best interest to only send SATII's that we felt we had done well on and to keep the other scores to ourselves. Is this possible? Can you pick and choose which SATII's to send to a school?

I don't know but I'd like to so this deserves a bump.

i think that when you send SATs, you send ALL scores you have EVER gotten (other than those in like 7th grade). So I doubt it's possible. You send all SAT I and SAT II scores.

Johnny, so if I only want to send my SAT II scores--my SAT I scores won't go with it, right?

You can't send only SAT II scores, it will also send SAT I scores if you have any.

i think they mean mention on the app

Ugh, so even if I wanted a school to just look at my ACT scores, and two SAT II scores--the school would also see my SAT I scores? I really hope that doesn't hurt my chances of admission. I mean, if I do really well on my ACT--will it negate a mediocre SAT score? Furthermore, if I signed up for the ACT essay--can I decide to not take it on test day?

The "pick and choose method" also known as Score Choice, was removed from collegeboard policies in 2003, I believe. When you send scores, all previous scores are sent.

The Northwestern rep is way behind the times in his/her knowledge of the SAT2.

Why was the option removed? Especially so recently? Obviously there was some kinda problem.

A lot of the poorer kids complained that the wealthier students could afford the Score Choice method to increase their chances.

Oh I see. Hmm. We wouldn't have this problem if Collegeboard took their words to heart and didn't force kids to pay for anything..you know, like a real "non profit organization". But thanks for the explanation

The college board is nothing more than a gold mine. Think about it $25 "processing fee", the PSAT, the "Real" prep books. If you think about it, the entire college process is a money market.

I heard test question makers make tons of money because each testing organization is competiting for them.

If all of our scores are sent, then when we register, why can we select which schools to send the scores to? i.e. You could send you SAT I to four schools and your SAT IIs to four different schools when you register.

bump please

If you look at the history of your scores sent, you'll notice that all your previous scores are sent to that school. So sending your scores during the testing process is a real deal, compared to paying the 8 (10?) bucks during the app process.

When you register to take the SAT I, it says list four schools that you want to send your scores to.
Then, when you register for the SAT IIs, it says list four other schools to send those scores to (it could be the same four, but it could not be).
My question is, why must we choose schools if everything with the name "SAT" that we've ever done is sent to the school?

Would someone answer him/her. (Bump).

Because those are four reports they send for free. It costs money if you do it later. Also, I am pretty sure it will only send the school your scores up to the point when you request that they be sent. (I know that's kind of what cannednish said, but maybe I don't really understand your question.)
