After reading the thread from @AnxiousMuch on grade bumping, it got me thinking... There are kids at my school who have a B+ at the end of the year and then go beg the teacher for the A-. Sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't. But it's irritating for the people who actually earn the A-.

Do you guys have similar problems at your schools? There was this one boy last year who had a B+ for all classes, then asked his teachers to bump it up and they all did...

Also, there are the students who ask to be bumped to an A instead of A-. Is it true that colleges view As to be the same (A vs A- vs A+)?

No. Colleges will know the differences between an A-, A, and an A+. At least, according to my teacher.

I hate how my grades are always on-the-edge. My teachers don’t bump, but I think we should at least be given Extra Credit opportunities. But they say extra credit is only reserved for “academic” class kids.

what do you mean by “academic class kids”?

It depends; I believe some colleges recalculate your GPA according to the grades on your transcript, but some probably just take the one your school calculates.

My high school doesn’t take into account +/-s, so I can see why someone would ask for a grade bump from a B+ to A-, since a B- is counted the same as a B+. And if you had an 89.5, it would be really annoying to be seen as equal to someone had an 80.

Academic as in NOT honors or AP.

Well, I still blame no one but myself for my bad GPA.
