Can you get out of the campus at all? I mean over the weekends? Or no..

It depends. They changed up the rules this year on passes and the like. Plebes get one pass per semester, one spirit pass per semester, and one religious pass per semester. That changes once you are a yuk and cow and firstie. You get no off-post privileges (OPPs) except for Plebe-Parent Weekend and A-day. OPPs get you into NYC and i think that Firsties have unlimited OPPs and I am not sure for cows and yuks.

But as a plebe, you have walking privileges every weekend after your duties. So after football games, training, whatever you are required to do, you can walk into Highland falls. Wo hoo. You have to be in white over grey for that or dress grey. So you can go to lunch, whatever.

Now all this is dependent upon what activity you get involved in. I made the Glee Club and I have been out of WP and in civilian clothes three times last semester, which as far as getting "out" is pretty good. Corps Squad sports teams leave a lot when they are in season. I don't know much about them simply because I am not on one, but they practice alot and some of them take away your breaks like thanksgiving and christmas for practice. My roommie is on the crew team which is club squad and they are going to FL on spring break for practice.

I know maybe more info than you wanted, but as with most things at the Point, "it depends" is a popular response. What activity are you looking on getting involved in and I will be able to help you out more.

what are the list of activities?

DCA | Directorate of Cadet Activities | Cadet Activities | US Military Academy | West Point

check out this link. It is the DCA (department of cadet activites) site and it gives you a pretty comprehensive run down of all the clubs. It doesn't include Corps Squad sports. If you go to usma.edu there is a separate link for those. Good luck choosing! there are so many things to do and so little time to do them! Get involved in something though and have fun...it will help you relax and meet new people out of your company. More friends=better.

My plebe d is on WAR (Women's Army Rugby), which is a considered a club. Her team has traveled a lot off post around the New England area. So, even though she missed all but 1 or 2 home football games, she was able to be out in the world a little more. Of course, the team travel is dependent on you keeping your grades up.

She has told me that being on WAR has made it easier for her to assimilate into the WP environment. It gave her a built-in support system, and friends from plebes to firsties. It has also provided a physical outlet for all the stress that can be part of the WP system.

You are required to be involved in a sport, and I believe that you can only be involved in one activity that allows travel off post. So choose carefully.

Wow! I Never Knew You Could Join Activities! This Is So Awesome! No Woner Why West Point Is The Bomb! I Thought I Wasnt Going To Have Fun But Dang!!! I Will!!!

Each and every day...;)

YUP, if you want 24 hours of non-stop FUN as a Plebe, then West Point's your place!!!!!!!!

How many credit-hours does the academy prescribe for plebes then? And is our non-stop FUN regimented, or are we left alone to fend for our own FUN?

I am taking 19.5 hours this semester. 18-19 is basically what everyone takes plebe year. Most yuks take 20+.

"And is our non-stop FUN regimented, or are we left alone to fend for our own FUN?"
It all depends on your definition of fun? ;)
Maybe a current cadet will give you a rundown of what a typical day is like for a plebe.

My plebe took 17.5 credits first semester. She told me today that she's been assigned 20.5 credits this semester. When I questioned if that was a normal load, she said that everybody's taking about the same.

Credits / Class
1.5 - Fundamentals/personal fitness
4.5 - Calculus I
3 - General Chemistry II
3 - Literature
1.5 - Introduction to warfighting
3 - General Psychology
3 - Regional Studies in World history (Russia)

Be prepared to time manage!!!

From what I hear, if you can't find the fun, then you're not looking hard enough.
