I understand that Michigan has processed my I-20 (I'm an international student currently in a community college). I had to asked my CC to transfer the SEVIS to Michigan. I have also appealed to Berkeley and if the appeals goes through, will I be able to go there?

Yes you will be able to go to a different college. You would need a new I-20 from Berkeley and your SEVIS record would have to be updated. Talk to the international student office at your community college for details.

b@r!um

You must be aware that there is going to be a huge churn of the wait lists this year, what with Harvard likely to take 150-175 students off the list. Imagine the cascading effect on all other colleges.

The process is likely to drag on till, may be 30th June.

So my query is: If u have taken F-1 visa on I-20 of one college and then u are offered a place on the college of choice, does one have to redo the process of applying for visa once again

First of all, I am not an immigration lawyer and I do not offer legal advice.

Secondly, I am not 100% sure. I know how transfer paperwork is handled (get a new I-20 and have your SEVIS record updated) but I am not sure if that applies to students who are not yet in the country, too. One thing the transfer process shows though is that the visa foil in your passport itself is independent of the college you are attending, so it should be possible to get waitlist situations straightened out in the same way as transfers. Again, all I can do is guess. If you are concerned, contact the international student office at the college that you will most likely be attending.

Hey plainb, i have same situation, i have written an email to my consular office , haven't got a reply yet, guess i will get the reply by tomorrow

i think u'll have to remain in the same college for one semester.... then mayb u can change.

Eh? alam, what are you saying? :S
