One Last "Chances" Post Before Thursday

Hi,

I know that we are all anxiously waiting for thursday, but I was hoping I could get a couple of responses as to my chances of getting into Yale. In some ways I feel it will help alleviate the pain on Thursday. :( Yale is my top choice for several reasons as it is for you as well. I had a good interview. It started off a little funny, but in the end my interviewer said I was a good candidate for Yale. Well here it goes:

SAT: 1430
SATIIS: chem 640, Math IIC 720, writing 720
Average: 95.4 uw
(9th is generally ignored)
(10th)
AP Euro (3), science research, math, english, chem, french, ancient greek

(11th)
AP US (3), science research, precalc/calc,english, physics, french lit, ancient greek

(12th)
college classes: honors calc, humanities, computer science
hs classes: government, science research, economics

Extracurriculars:
- Music (4 years): competitions, concerts, awards
- Research: working to have research published
I have devoted lots of time to both activities

Awards and Stuff:
- Intel semifinalist, Science and Engineering Fair semifinalist
- Arista (treasurer), MuAlphaTheta, Science society
- National Merit commendation
- school senator
- more science honors

Volunteer Work:
- Kumon math center tutoring
- Accounting work at day center
- Public library

Recommendations(4): Very Good/ Excellent

Essays: Passionate and exciting

It is a rough sketch of my app.

Thanks in advance!

You have intel semifinalist status, which is huge in college admissions, a definite plus for you.

Your sats are average/below for a Yale student, and it doesn't look like you took the most rigorous classes you could have (Only two APs and 3s for both of them. I may be wrong however; your school may operate differently than mine or others)

It looks like you have just as much of a shot as the rest of us, but if your recommendations/essays were really that exceptional it may push you over the top.

thx tenNinjas! Yeah, my school offers few aps and i was stuck with history.

well good luck to everyone on thursday!

Same as the above person said. I don't know about the 4 recs...I know I was told not to send more than the required two plus one additional if it really added a new perspective. Anyway, these things are so hard to predict. I think it would be best for everyone just to expect rejection, because the fact is that Yale gets so many more qualified applicants than they can take. Then if you get in, just be really grateful that someone in admissions liked you. Before I got deferred, I told myself this, but still thought in the back of my head that I would get in. Don't even think in the back of your head you'll get in.

From personal experience, asking what your chances are at this point will drive you crazy (even more so than you already are). Try to relax (as hard as it is) - your decision has been made, and you'll find out Thursday.

Out of curiosity, though, what other schools have you applied to?

Sutol, don't pay much mind to the haters. Someone with your stats or less could get in. It doesn't matter anyway. It'd be nice to go to Yale, but you can still get a great education elsewhere. You've just gotta trust that thing will work out the way they are supposed to. :)

thx for the help so far!
In any case, yes, they have made my (our) decision. Its even more nervewracking because I (like many others) will be receiving four replies on thursday evening. FOUR!!! That's why I like the old US post method, how much ever easier the email thing works.

vivaldi- I have applied for all engineering schools and Yale because I loveee the campus and the many humanities courses offered.

alterman & hypoxia- yes, i believe that too. everything works out for the best.

Four.. psh ..I'm getting at least 6.

and Yale because I loveee the campus

I can relate. Good reasoning. :)

lol...anyone stand in Cross Campus spinning in the circles singing, "Born free......free as the wind blowwwwsss." lol

The science thing is a hook but your chem and iic scores don't really back that up...but if its' the fault of your school, I don't see how they can hold it against you really
