Thought it would be fun to tally final decisions as they're being made. Feel free to post your decisions and rationale.

We're NOT in. Had hoped money wouldn't be an issue in choosing MU vs. Univ Iowa but the modest Ignatius award made it 5k more per year than Iowa. That and the general lack of research opps for undergrad engineers are the main reasons. It was a difficult decision as son felt very comfortable at MU and its biomedical engineering program is very well-established and respected. It was a GOOD option, just less good than Iowa.

i am trying to decide between MU, loyola chicago, and (if i get in) college of the holy cross. MU didnt give me great FA and i between that and money my parents have saved, i dont have quite enough, and loyola gave me more than enough. i will know about HC soon and i am visiting MU today so i will know very soon where i am going.

i’m trying to decide between HC and MU as well. MU offered more money than Iowa, and the other schools i’ve been accepted haven’t offered any money. I’m just waiting to hear back from HC about financial aid.

For S, there were a couple of lesser schools that would have been less expensive than MU, but it was definitely his best option. The saying that students “bloom where they’re planted” holds true as a parent of a college freshman, I’ve certainly found that to be true.

My daughter decided against Marquette. For awhile it seemed to be a sure thing back when she wanted PT. Now it is either U of I or Notre Dame ( her dream school) depending on how much debt we want to get into. Marquette is a great school. I am sure all of you who choose to go there will be very happy. Thanks to all for all the great feedback and info you have given this past year!

For all of you making final decisions… my oldest son goes to Iowa State (OOS) my youngest is a Freshman at MU. My daughter got in but she got into a very good performing arts school (so she is not going to MU). My oldest got a good fin. aid package from ISU, but between Freshman and Sophomore year tuition the increase was larger (about 10% more than MU). Fin. Aid package was also lower than the Freshman year due to the economic problems of the state, so right now my loan is going to be higher for the State school than MU because the MU grant was for the 4 years and they increased it this year to cover the tuition increase. So you should make sure that the grants are guaranteed for the 4 years at State school your son is attending.

FWIW, with the Ignatius award son received and the confidence that he can finish in four years, he’s going to MU for far less than at our UCalifornia’s would cost.

S2 has chosen Villanova instead of Marquette. No merit aid and a higher cost to us, but better athletics all-around and a better program in his intended major. Think he liked the campus better, as well. Only downside is he will miss out on the opportunity to continue with lax at the college club level. Congrats to all on their decisions!

I can’t decide between MU and Catholic U in DC. I think i’ll end up at MU but as a potential Political Science major I would love to be closer to DC. I did get a really good financial aid package at Marquette so that might make it easier depending on what Catholic gives me. I just had an overnight and I loved it!

Pemberly, don’t forget the Les Aspin program at Marquette! Son was also interested in Catholic, second choice behind Marquette. He liked that he could still have that DC connection at Marquette. Good luck to you!

All the other colleges I applied to sent a postcard or something to send back if you decide not to attend their school, does anyone know if Marquette does anything like that? because I didn’t see anything with the stuff they sent me.
