One more try? Reading section weighing down ACT score

So the deadline to sign up for the June test is this week and I’m torn over what to do. My first score was a 33C with 35E 34M 29R 35S. I’m very satisfied with this score, but the reading section is dragging it down. I took it again in April (which I regret since I had no time to prepare) and got roughly the same breakdown, but did not go up in any section. I’m having trouble deciding whether it’s worth it to take a third time in June. I’m interested in competitive merit scholarships, which I hear tend to be more stats-based, so I’m wondering if raising the score would help. Unlike the April test, I would have plenty of time to prepare for the June test and I could focus on reading. I just have doubts about how much a higher score would help (if at all), whether it’s worth putting in the time, and how feasible improvement is (I hear reading is the most difficult section to improve).

If the breakdown was even, I’d probably let it go, but I feel like my reading score is holding me back. I just worry that it’s a bit obsessive. Is there any real difference between a 33 and a 34+, specifically for merit aid? I’ve looked around at other threads, and it seems most people recommend retaking a 32 and below and discourage it for a 34 or above, but the 33s tend to get pretty mixed reviews. I’d love to hear any thoughts!

If you believe that you can improve then you should definitely retake it. Your reading score is definitely a bit of an outlier. Be realistic and analyze your own skills and weaknesses. If you truly think you’ll improve then there is no harm in retaking the test, but if you aren’t going to improve your scores that much then you shouldn’t bother. The difference between a 33 and a 34 isn’t all that amazing, but it does exist. (Anywhere from 1-10 extra percentage points of a higher chance from my own calculations.)
