I May Retake a 34... Am I Crazy?

Okay, so after getting a 34 in June, I have been thinking of retaking it. I did study for this test (only math though... other sections I just worked on speed/timing). All of my friends say I'm crazy and quite possibly a bit obsessive. I would like to make it clear though, I am not retaking because I MUST HAVE a 35/36. I am retaking because I think I can get a 35/36, and I think it would be super-cool to get one of those two scores (specifically a 36). What do you guys think??

34 Comp
35 Eng
34 Math
34 Rdg
33 Sci
^^ I'd work on math a bit more, maybe some science and reading too... English is just a matter of capitalizing on one or two subjective questions.

Opinions, puh-leaze!

A 36 is really hard to achieve. You can only miss like 2 questions instead of the 6-8 questions that you missed last time. But if you think you can, then I say go for it. You can probably find better things to do, but seeing as its only 1 Saturday, you might as well go and do it.

A 35 is definitely within your range. Math is the easiest to ace, so if you manage 2 more points on math, you will have your 35 right there.

What was your essay score? It would be worth the retake if you scored 8 or less essay.

9 Essay... :(
I think I could get a 10 with a bit of practice

And yes, my math is going to be my main focus, since it is (in my opinion) the easiest to study for. I also think I can gain another point on science or reading fairly easily.

some may say you're crazy.. some won't.. i say go for it.. i was in your same shoes back in June... i took the April one and got a 34 (7 on writing though...) and didn't want to take it again at first.. then i got convinced to take it again, and i got a 35 in June (8 writing, which is fine with me)

so i say go for it, and good luck

^If you aren't too busy, would you mind writing a comprehensive guide as to how you received a 35 on the ACT? :D I'm taking the September ACT and right now Reading and Science are killing me, though the timing for Science is getting better after using your method :) but I always run out of time for Reading...

Haha, Thanks!

Ever hear about "diminishing marginal returns"? Looking at the energy and time expenditure to get an extra point(s) compared to how much benefit the additional point(s) will get you with adcoms..it makes no sense. (Look at the many threads reporting adcoms saying that, beyond a certain point, they start weighing demonstration of special interest and talent more than test scores). On the other hand, there's no quantifying personal satisfaction, so if the higher score is what really "floats your boat", go for it. Good luck.

I hope you're not crazy. I'm doing the same thing.

Mine was:

35 eng
36 math
33 reading
33 science

I'm retaking cuz I think I can get a much better score in Reading and Science. Hopefully I can.

I'm off to study now...

PS: I just signed up for the October 25th ACTs :)

I'll start studying up after October 4th (SAT II's)

you're not crazy. My son made a 32 in 9th grade, 33 in 10th and a 34 in
11th grade. Granted he is in the gifted program and his teacher has stressed that the more they take the test the less stressed they will be. I guess it worked. His friends now think he's just trying to "be perfect" cause he's taking the SAT and the ACT in October. His ACT subscores were 36 in reading, 36 in English, 33 in Science, but he just can't stand that 29 in Math. Now that he's had calculus, he thinks he may be able to bring that score up. Hopefully so....after October he's done with college placement testing. He'll be glad..I think.

It's pretty easy to raise a 34 to a 36, but a lot harder to raise a 35 to a 36-if you know what I mean. Because a lower score is easier to raise than a higher score... I think
