one tree hill -- too risky?

yes, i know it's a tv show. however, i have gotten so much out of it. would it be way too risky to use as an essay topic?

never seen it

^^same here!

So if you do end up writing on it then keep in mind that adcoms might not have seen it too!! So you might want to add a little synopsis in your essay!!

I don’t think it’s popular enough to reference. Not to mention, if the reader did know what you were talking about, they’d probably think less of you, maybe. I don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s just… yeah I hope you understand lol

Do you plan to place it as the main topic?

i was hoping to use it as my topic for the common app essay. @aninstance, can you explain why the adcoms would think less of me? i mean i thought they sometimes appreciated risks in essay topic

^ Ahem, correction: GOOD risky essay. :)

massgirl I think what aninstance meant was they (adcoms) might not have seen it and even if they had they might be prejudiced against or downright not like or hate OTH!

IT IS RISKY BUT NOT A RISK I WOULD BET ON!

If you want to stand out,I’d recommend you think of another idea which is risky as well as universally appealing! I already have written mine (1st draft!) and I THINK it is the right dose of risky and appealing! Think of another idea, you’ll get tons of them!

I agree with the other person. Even if the adcoms knew the show you were referencing, I don’t think they would be too impressed; take the opportunity in your essay to show them the best facets of you as a person- while this show may have had a significant impact on your life, it may communicate something unintended about you, so I would stick away from that topic.

thanks for the advice, everyone. so that option is out. i’m thinking about writing about mornings, but i don’t know if that’s a good topic…who knows

Do NOT use TV shows or video games as essay topics.
Also don’t write about that "magical summer you spent with your grandparents at their lake house with your mother and her new fianc

soze: You cannot rule out all TV shows (Though personally I’d never write on it!) but I read a pretty mean Lisa Simpson essay and I like it a lot!

Massgirl: Morning though a general topic can be made interesting with witticism and anecdotes…BUT you should make it VERY personal…VERY HUGE TOPIC that can be made boring as well as witty!

I have actually read a college admissions essay about mornings. I agree with MajorQuest that if you choose to write about this, let them see who you are. I’m now interested in what your morning essay would actually be about…lol : )

LOL… One of my friends lives in the OTH beach house and people show up all the time on their front lawn, so I guess the series has had a impact on a lot of people. But I think I would stay away from an essay based on a TV series…
