Hello, I'm looking for a fun and educational summer camp for a rising junior. I'm a very good student, ranked first in my class. Price doesn't really matter to me, but i'm looking for one week to a ten days camp. I'm not looking for a math/science camp.

http://www.satoricamp.org/

my kids have attended this over three different summers, with different experiences. most of the attendees are from the Pacific northwest and Canada. many of the instructors are former students.

it's not a high-stress academic environment, but more of an exploratory experience.

you pick three courses and attend classes in those three courses until late afternoon. there are organized shows and activities every evening. it's fairly unique in that you can mix and match science, sports, arts, journalism, poli sci, etc.

Memorial University of Newfoundland runs a one week underwater romotely operated vehicle camp. MUN is one of the top 10 Naval Arch/Marine Eng schools in the WORLD, with unique tow tanks including ice capable ones. Program is very inexpensive, residential, but the airfare to get there is very $$$$.

toadstool, that sounds like a very interesting adventure and definitely something my son would enjoy some summer - I can only find 2007 info - I wonder if they are doing it again in 2009? Do you know if there is a different web site?
Marine Institute - a marine fisheries and marine educational institute offering international training iniatives - Summer Camps.

If one flew out of Detroit, airfare would be about $500 (with stopover in newark) which is expensive but then again the price of the camp is only about $225.

I suggest the Juniper Young Writer's institute at UMass Amherst--I went to it last year and had never had such a mind blowing week of creative writing =)

Institute for Young Writers

of course, only if you're a bit more than remotely interested in creative writing, and not afraid of an intense yet rewarding week~~

The geology week is in June, Youth Geology Field Camp.
Youth Geology Field Camp - High School

The space week [black holes, observatory/telescope, satellites, alien slime(?)] is in July.
Space Adventures!, grades 9-12

(There are some one-week engineering camps here too.)

I second Satori camp. It is more than just your average academic camp. You meet the most unique people and find yourself there.
