I want to take an AP course online in the summer or next year (junior year). I want to take AP Computer Science, but my school doesn’t offer it. I looked at Apex, but AP CS isn’t offered. I also looked at JHCTY, but I don’t meet the requirement for the math PSAT score (I was 1 off).
- Where is somewhere I can take it?
- How does it look to colleges? Would it be treated the same as if I would have taken it at school if it was offered?
Try and take the course through Virtual High School. Personally I wouldn’t recommend online AP classes though; most of the people who took AP CS online dropped out of it, except one person.
Online courses in general aren’t treated the same as if you took it at school. Colleges can’t know if you’ve had the full experience of the class online as you would have at school.
We have a Senior at my school who took Honors Chemistry online, but was ultimately rejected from a Biomedical Engineering program at UConn because he didn’t take the class at school.
If you want, you can self study for it and take the AP Exam next year.
