So i’m currently a freshman and film production major. Recently I’ve been so so so overwhelmed by the thought of spending 3 more years suffering (yes.) here. I just feel so overwhelmed with the amount of work I get even though I’m only in 4 classes, two of which actually give me work (Though one of the two gives us so much reading plus now we have a paper to deal with and I know this is college but its so much) . I am also an avid procrastinator which doesn’t help. I was thinking that maybe doing online school would be a bit easier for me because I feel like I would have more time to work and absorb what I’m learning. I also think it would help me to not feel so overwhelmed all the time (though the thought of being at home doesn’t REALLY brighten my day)…anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good program for film and/or had any experience with online film courses.
Don’t do an online film program. It’s a waste of money. To get a job in film, you need practical, hands-on experience, and contacts, contacts, contacts. None of this is going to happen with you sitting at home or a library in front of a computer.
If school is so overwhelming, maybe it’s time to take a break and re-evaluate your major, your school, your psyche. But switching to an online school, in this field, makes no sense.
Also, online isn’t actually less work, or more relaxed deadlines.
Online is harder. And you miss all the contactd, networking opportunities, that make or break you in this business. What university are you in ? Why did you choose this major - are you sure it’s the eight one for you ?
Most questions asked on CC are hard for “outsiders” to answer. It’s really up to the student. HOWEVER, this is not one of those hard questions. The answer is CLEAR: Don’t do it!!! I agree it’s a total waste. Is there such an online major? It doesn’t make sense.
