Online Foreign Language Classes/ College Class Equivalences?

I’m a sophomore taking French III, however I have a terrible grade - 77 first semester and 97.5 (will likely go down since we recently had a test in which we had to write out an essay we memorized, which most of my class gets a C-F on, even ones with 4.0’s) this semester, since my learning style isn’t really compatible with the teachers’ teaching. I don’t have room in my schedule for French IV, but I’ve found French 202: Intermediate French, Part 2 through BYU Independent Study. I need some clarity, but I think French IV is mainly reading short stories and works of literature, which is what the BYU class is mainly composed of, according to the syllabus.

So what I want to know is whether an online class in a foreign language is like, especially since I don’t know any fluent French speakers other than my teacher. Is it worth it to pay $534 for it, especially since I’m not face to face with anyone who speaks French? And would French 202 at BYU equal French IV at my school? For reference, French IV is a requirement for AP, unless you’re native and test out.

I checked the course catalog at BYU, and it’s the 4th course in the French language sequence (there’s a 3rd course in the 100 level classes, but that’s for newbies who don’t have any French background).

I’d say it’s worth it. You’d get college credit, and it look really good on your college apps that you took a college class when something wasn’t working out for you.

Good luck!
