Online Math Courses

Hi, I am a sophomore in high school and planning to take Pre-Calculus online via FLVS. I live in Florida so FLVS is free and am planning to take it because the teacher offereing Pre-calc honors at my school has a reputation for being an awful teacher. Does anyone have any experiences with taking Pre-calc online or with FLVS? Was it difficult to learn the material? Does it properly prepare you for AP Calculus and AP Statistics? For someone with a strong Algebra I and Algebra II background, is the class manageable? Thank you!

You probably shouldn’t take any math class entirely online (my teachers said that). The same goes with English too by the way.

If you get an unethical teacher you should tell her boss or the principal or whoever manages the school you’re at.

Doing math online is good. Will the precalc credit count towards graduation?

I have a friend who took precalc through FLVS last year, while I took it in school. Their class was sooo much simpler than mine, but it still taught them the necessities and he’s doing great in AP Calc this year. If you’re very strong with algebra and you’re motivated, I’d recommend it.

Many online maths courses are available now. You can choose a right service for your study.

My son took CTY’s Hon Precalculus (online). He had no problem with IB Math HL afterwards or AP Calc C a year later.

If you’re eligible for CTY, you can take it when you want (therefore you can take it while you’re having another math course at your school, if you want to). Since the course is self-paced, you can arrange your speed as you wish. You can study more over the weekends or on school holidays. You will have access to a software. You will read few pages, then do some exercise problems and at the end of each topic you will have a quiz. There is a midterm and a final. Questions of the midterm and the final are much harder than the quizzes. A teacher will help you if you have questions or you don’t understand a topic (via emails or via video chat).

If I remember correctly, the cost is around $500 for an access of 6 months. It was a very straight forward and efficient process.

I’ve heard good things about FLVS too.
